I haven't posted for awhile, but I have read others posts from time to time. I have a question that I hope everyone will take the time to respond to.
I am wondering how many of us with Fibromyalgia used the antibiotic Cipro at some point in their life before they were diagnosed with Fibromyalgia?
I've been doing some reading, and it appears damage from Cipro can be permanent as it destroys cartilage and/or tendons and can permanently alter the nervous system as well as a whole lot more. It now carries a black box warning.
I had a rare UTI and was prescribed Cipro sometime before I gradually began to develop symptoms. I do not have my old medical records, so I can't know for sure how long it was before symptoms started.
I remember one of my first symptoms was the feeling like the muscles in my quads were being stretched like rubber bands. I also had severe gastrointestinal symptoms -- which could be due to Cipro wiping out good bacteria-- which occurred several months after the Cipro. And migraines, and then the sleeping issues began, and I was the type of person who slept like the dead once I nodded off before sleep became impossible. Over time more and more symptoms developed such as migrating pain in bones and joints and muscle spasms, and these are also side-effects of Cipro.
