FaithAlways: I think we all can relate to what you're dealing with. When I first had fibro, my muscles were ridiculously tight, to the point where I could barely walk without severe spasms and muscle cramping. I was SO frustrated. It was a long journey before I began to feel like I could handle/accept what was going on with my body. Even now, years later, it's a daily thing I've come to accept. I'm not about
to let this ruin any more days than it already has.
Pacing yourself is key. Don't take on more than you can handle. Try not to feel guilty if you can't do a lot right now.
I'm glad you came to this forum. Don't worry if you don't feel you have a positive attitude right now--you're probably still sort of in shock dealing with all this. Just take one day at a time. Concentrate on one area of the fibro that is bothering you, and work on that (or ask for help, or talk to your doctor for suggestions, etc.). Don't be overwhelmed-just one day at a time--sometimes one hour or one minute! Step by step works.
Try to find things to do that you enjoy--pets, hobbies, visiting with friends, outings you can handle right now, etc. Relaxing music and funny movies are good (I like the DVDs we have of the old shows like "Leave It To Beaver," "Andy Griffith," "Lucy," "Little House on the Prairie," etc.--life seemed simpler in those shows, and they're a mini "escape."
I don't know your beliefs, but prayer has helped me a lot, personally, and others here, too. I love spiritual music, too.
Remember: Your friends here will help you navigate. We all ask for help here at times because as you know, fibro seems to be ever-changing.
Wish you the best! Have a good weekend, and I hope it's a relaxing one.
ETA: I used to make the mistake of sitting or lying down too much. Now I try to get more steps in every day, without overdoing. One thing that helps is alternating sitting with standing, when you can. I get horribly stiff if I sit even 10 minutes in one place. I have to move as much as I can.
