Welcome to the forum, sheep lady!
I think many, if not most of us here are shallow breathers; I know I am. It helps me to try to stay aware of it and do some in/out breathing (I think Karen, a moderator, mentioned it just this morning. She has a great technique for it in the "New here and scared" thread--whether or not anxiety is involved).
Also, it seems to help if I get outside for some fresh air when I can. I live in a cold climate and have the furnace running all winter. I am so thankful to get to this time of year when I can be outside more often.
I would also suggest continuing to let your doctor know about
your breathing issues. If you don't feel you're getting help with it, perhaps you could try another doctor. Sometimes we just have to 'shop around' for help!
It sounds like you have been checked over and have had tests. Most of us have 'been there, done that,' too. It helped me to see a neurologist to get double-checked. Many here also see a rheumy doctor.
As far as the pain you have in your stomach, have you had an upper endoscopy? I had horrible pain in that area a few years ago, and had that test done, finding out it was gastritis. It may be a good idea to get checked for that, if you haven't already.
How long ago was your surgery? It sometimes takes months for our bodies to recover after surgery, and to feel 'normal' again. I remember after my surgery for a ruptured appendix, it took probably about
a year before I felt 'good' again.
A side note on breathing: Just about
every year, I go through a month or so in late winter where my breathing is extremely shallow, like I'm breathing through a narrow straw. Tests show nothing---just that I flunk the tests! My doctor is stumped, but thinks it could be an odd allergy; perhaps snow mold (which I'd never heard of). Weird stuff.
You're doing the right thing in getting tests done, and keep after your doctor to help you with the pain, maybe getting a referral to a gastro doctor. Maybe a rheumy or neurologist, too.
Best wishes and keep posting!
ETA: If you should find out you do have gastritis, there is a gastritis forum at dailystrength.org that is helpful.
