Thanks everyone! It's good to hear others' experiences. I guess when we are in so much pain, we hope the professionals will respond quickly. I realize how busy and overwhelmed they are. I know in our state (Indiana), there just aren't enough doctors being "made".
Thanks for giving me encouragement about an NP being potentially very good too.
Like I said, I'm trying to only do one doctor at a time. It just seems reasonable to me, so as not to confuse all the issues with different opinions. I've had fibro for as long as I can remember, but what has happened recently feels really different. It seems like every joint/muscle/ligament/tendon I have has developed bursitis/tendonitis, etc. Is this just part and parcel of Fibro? I'm sure my fairly bad osteoarthritis makes it all worse. But something seemed to occur systemically all at once. I'm a retired critical care nurse, so I feel like I'm not totally uneducated about some things. Maybe I just never appreciated how awful FMS can be.
Unfortunately, because of all my plantar fasciitis, sciatica, sinus infections, various pains, etc., etc., I was overdosed on NSAIDS years ago, and can't take any of them. Even when I take 1/4 of an Aleve, my reflux acts up. It's a real bummer to not be able to use that. I use tylenol only, which is fairly useless. I'm going to try a whole flexeril later today, after I run some necessary errands. I'm sure it will put me to sleep......and the last time I used 1/2 pill, it made me sleepy, but didn't touch the pain.
I'm married to a doctor, but he really doesn't like to treat his family members! Plus, our BIL is dying and he's needed elsewhere.......not to mention his own business is overwhelming. So I'm feeling like I'm falling through the cracks. (Not to mention I have a doctor phobia!!). Yeah, I'm weird. ;)
My elbows have started stinging, and my bum even hurts! I think it's sacroiliitis or ischial bursitis. I'm sort of feeling now that an ortho doc might help with all those other problems, more than a rheumie. But I'm waiting for some word from the rheumie's office about the tests.....and seeing the NP in a bit.
I have a bone-on-bone knee and I think docs feel that I'm being unreasonable for not getting a replacement.....but I'm just not there yet. I think there are other things to suggest, but many docs just immediately go to meds or replacements. And I have had the experience of a knee surgery actually making things worse.
It definitely feels like something systemic.........since everything is hurting, one right after the other over about a 2 month span. But I guess that it can be "just" fibro?
For some strange reason, I panic when I have pain I can't control.......which only adds to the problem. I do occasionally take a little bit of xanax.
I have so much to do.......There are so many things I love in life. I just want to be able to do them without hurting so much all the time. I'm still wondering if it's funky female hormones.....like maybe the Relaxin hormone is stuck off or on. I believe in the literature that's been suggested.
It's weird.......my brother is 2 years older than me (I'm 66), and he moved out west in an RV when he retired and spends all his time hiking/bicycling/back packing. I think I got the gene short stick.
Thanks for listening! I do appreciate it.
