I came across this article in a magazine in a doctor's office, and then I found it online. It's written by a PT who works with patients with chronic illness. This article is directed toward people with FM and CFS, and I thought his advice was stellar. He has some great recommendations on how to get started, how much is enough, and how much is too much. He also encourages that even small steps are steps in the right direction.

I also came across this article he wrote on relaxation. I've used progressive relaxation in the past and found it to be quite helpful when my muscles are really tense.

This was very good, Austen! Thank you for sharing this. It is very important to keep moving with fibro so I hope members who need an incentive to start gentle exercises will read this.

This is important information
I had been able to work up some and then have had an injury..
Had to have some therapy, but after a super busy week..need to work back into a good routine.
When i am injured and cannot do cardio.. I can still do floor work, like gentle yoga , ..and some gentle strengthening exercises..also stretches..
I also do gentle muscle releases using a therapy ball.
On a bad day, i might only do some gentle exercises , on a good day i do more housework, some work outdoors or an indoor bike..sometimes just adding steps by shopping : )
Just my personal experience..i am much worse if i stay inactive too long
If i need therapy, i get neuromuscular therapy, not an exercise type.
We get too weak without exercise..but pacing and gradually working up is necessary.
