Hi - My daughter (19 years old) has just been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (meeting all 18 Smyth Criteria) and Hypermobilty (8 out of 9 criteria).

She has been suffering from abdominal pain; nausea; vomiting; pain - pins and needles in her arms/legs/fingers (well just about anywhere really).

today we saw the Gastroenterologist at the hospital and he has advised that he is going to refer her to a specialist dietitian for a FODMAP - diet. Has anyone heard/undertaken this form of diet - how did you find it??

I am desperate to help her - she's been suffering for over 10 years. Thank you in advance :-)

Welcome, nutmeg.

Your daughter's symptoms sound severe. I haven't heard of that type of food plan. We do have a special thread just for food discussions, because so many have so many ideas it was taking over the forum.
Lupus, RA, Fibromyalgia, Glaucoma, Asthma, Hypothyriodism, Sleep Apnea, Depression, Allergies, diabetes, and benign familia tremors

When life throws you lemons....
Pick them up and throw them right back at them! :))

Hi, nutmeg,

The FODMAP diet is a diet that eliminates certain types of carbohydrates and sugars. It is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome. You can easily find lots of good info on it by googling "FODMAP diet".

You might try posting questions about the diet in the Irritable Bowel Syndrome forum. They will have experience with this diet. You can also type FODMAP into the Search box above and posts about the diet will come up.

Sorry to hear,

Not use to that severe of vomiting and nausea being part of fibromyalgia..but there are different forms...

There are many self help methods, especially for pain levels and fatigue..

Between your dr. And self help you can get her to a pretty good level..just remind her that some of us have had since childhood and not always easy, but we married, had kids, worked , volunteered ..so you can get to a much better point..she will have to learn to pace herself for sure.
