Hello I am new the forum. I have had a long time of aches and pains for over 15 years, docs have mentioned fibromyagia but have not been officially diagnosed. My recent flare is really bad headaches. We were remodeling our kitchen and it was a super stressful time. I was very stressed and clenching jaw in sleep and uptight. I started to get little short jabby pains on top of the head like an ice pick. After a few weeks of those I turned my head nothing out of the ordinary and felt a jolt of pain in my head. I went to a neuro and they called it occipital neuralgia. It has been 5 months so far and just pretty fed up with sharp pains in head. Some days are better but for the most part my head hurts a lot. The doctor said stress and muscle tension can cause this. Does anyone else have these type of headaches. Any relief?

Hi, Holly, and welcome! Your headaches sound quite painful. I don't get this with fibro but some members have had problems with headaches. If you go to the Google Custom search at the top of the forum and type in "Fibro headaches" a ton of posts dealing with this issue will pop up. I did try putting the link in this post but it expanded the thread so you couldn't read it. Anyway, this should give you a good idea as to what our members deal with when it comes to headaches.

You might want to see a board certified rheumatologist to get a correct diagnosis though. You see, there are other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as fibromyalgia and they need to be ruled out...things like Lyme disease and lupus. The treatment for these is different than for fibro. There isn't a good test for fibro so this needs to be done.

Meanwhile, read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot about this illness there. You just might see yourself.

Do let us know how you are doing because we do care about you. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Hey hollyt,
I get ice pick headaches too, and yes they're actually called that. I never attributed them to fibro before though. I DO tend to clench my jaw in my sleep when I'm stressed however. What worked for me was accidently being sent to physical therapy for my neck instead of my back (I also have scoliosis). After 6 weeks of learning stretching exercises and then being blown away that it's possible for your head to actually rest on your shoulder the headaches went away. I think there cause may actually lie in strained neck muscles more than fibromyalgia, but that's just my opinion. I still get them when I've been stressed out and clenching my jaw but try to stretch my neck out and they seem to go away. They're excruciating though! Hope that helps!

Hi, just to add a possibility, as we are all detective's! Figuring out what is going on,..
Have you tried a chiropractor?
I have to go often. Nerves come from the spine.. I think ice pick pain is sometimes! a nerve type pain.. I used to say I have a knife in my neck and one in my eye.
It seems doing a variety of healing methods, and medicines can help us.
I'm going to my first rhematologist in two weeks, hopefully getting diagnosis. My docs are so not helpful.
Best wishes!
