I was diagnosed with the flu over two weeks ago. I still have cough, running a low grade fever off and on. A week ago I woke up with pain under my jaw, a huge swollen lymph node. I went in to my doctor and was told it was either an infected salivary gland or a swollen lymph node. They drew blood work and on Monday a nurse called to tell me it was all okay. I explained to her that the swollen node I had on the previous Friday was gone, and now the other side of my neck under the jaw was swollen and tender and larger than the other side had been. She said oh, she did not know what to tell me. So the lab they use has a patient portal and it notified me today that I could see the lab work performed last week.

The results are difficult for me to understand and I wondered if any of you out there could explain. My results were as follows:

EBV Ab FCA, IgG - results: 136.0 Flagged as HIGH it says positive is >21.9
EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG - results: 457.0 Flagged as HIGH and it states Positive is > 21.9

The interpretation EBV Chart showed

EBV-IgM as Antibody Present, the EA (D) - IgG as Antibody Present, VCA-IgG as Antibody present and EBNA-IgG as Antibody present.

I thought all these results indicated Mono. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Auntem, I happened to see you post & wanted to comment. I did not look up your lab values, however, at there is an excellent article on EBV, along with the symptoms. Many years ago I thought I had the flu. It was right at the holidays & I finally just felt so bad I went to a walk in clinic. I thought well Christmas is less than a week away maybe some meds will knock this out. I just got sicker & called my GP for an appt. He did an exam, my spleen was enlarged & he looked at me & said you have mono. He sais you have 2 choices, go home & rest for a week or go to the hospital for a week. He scared me, I opted to stay home. He sent me for labs that confirmed the dx of mono. By the way, I had your symptoms.

My advice, is call your GP & make an appt & discuss your lab results with you. The explanation given over the phone is pretty shoddy in my opinion. As I understand it, since it is a virus it can remain in your body dormant. There is a potential of it flaring up again, knock on wood this has never happened with me. Take care.
