Just wondering if anyone has tried either one for pain and what your experience was like. I was on Butrans patch and Tramadol for years but now the Butrans stopped working. I was put on Fentanyl and that’s not giving me any relief. I have Lyme disease and 2 coinfections and have pain of 7-9 on pain scale. I have 3 kids and it’s so hard to take care of them if I don’t have some pain relief. I know fibromyalgia pain is very similar to Lyme pain so I thought I’d ask here also.

If there is something that has helped you with pain that you’d like to mention, I would love hear it.

Thanks so much!

I did try it a couple of times to little effect, but I think for cbd oil to be effective you have to take it daily and you need to find the right kind. I'm waiting for legalization in Ontario as the prescription oil is very expensive. There is a group on facebook called CBD oil users group that could give you better information. It's very helpful with legalities and is CBD oil only, so not very 'out there' if you knwim.

I'm almost two weeks in trying it. I was told by the prescribing doc it would take a month or so.

I take CBD oil 2x a day and a THCA oil 2x a day (apparently THCA, while having the THC, the THC is still bound up some what so you don't get high). An hour before bed I take a small dose of THC Indica oil.

So far...no huge pain reduction, just takes the edge off a bit, such that I know when it wears off. I was on amitryptiline but I went off a week ago and that caused me all kinds of pain, nausea, and, weirdly, itchiness ! It's been a painful week but I want to see if the CBD oil works...maybe should have kept the amitrypiline. I guess the amitryptiline was actually doing something - without it I feel way more pain in my muscles and skin.

This CBD oil regime does help me sleep !! That is so important. Even if I stop buying the CBD oil down the road, I might hold on to the night time one.

I am in British Columbia. Once I got on the program I could (strangely) order any product I wanted but I went with what my doc prescribed. Well, I don't want smoke in my lungs, don't want to vape. Apparently some heat is needed to release the THC. Oils are safe BUT one should be careful if using THC strains because oils can take an hour or so to kick in - don't want to over do it (one builds up gradually over days to find what level works).

I tried CBD oil for a month but had the unfortunate effect of it making my pain worse not better. After some research I found out that can happen in some case. Just lucky i guess. Dosage change didn't help either

Hi,

I have been diagnosed fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis-early stage....doesn't feel like early stage nono

I also have a history of chronic pain from lower back issues. I have 3 artificial disc replacements in my spine.

I am already in pain management and was beginning to finally see the end of the light, post op developed facet issues, after injections, meds, was ready to begin to exercise. I was a long distance runner and half ironman finisher 8 years ago, plus an avid tennis player. This has been devastating emotionally.

I don't have your ENORMOUS responsibilities of raising children...

I had a bike accident 2 months ago that sparked this flare apparently. I like you have a pain level of 8-9.

On the RA site I asked the same question. Most that answered said it was effective and if I had access to try it. I do and am in the process of getting registered in my state. Haven't decided if I will or not, I am little hesitant. Although everyone was very positive as well as the doctor that certified me. (Not a back alley MD like I imagined, a normal family practice female that believed strongly in the right of the patient to achieve an optimal quality of life for them.

On the RA website I have asked the question and have received numerous responses that they use it regularly and it is effective. I received a similar number of responses that said use plain CBD oil, not sure what that is, but the people using it seemed to have more chronic and may be useful for me later, I need as you something for acute pain breakthrough.

Don't know if I helped, but I think I will try, I don't think it will hurt anything. Plain CBD oil is over the counter, I have no idea but some swore by it.

Best of luck

I would be a little cautious about over the counter CBD oil vs from a dispensary - only because of ensured potency. Kind of like vitamins or herbals, I would worry that the strength or purity wouldn't be guaranteed. Maybe ?

Cannabis has been phenomenal for me. My preference is edibles, which can be tricky to regulate. However, once I figured it out it has helped immensely. For someone who is constantly fighting for some kind of energy, when I do consume it does make me more tired. I consume on days when I would end up being in bed or on the couch, so it isn't really that much of deal. Makes my world a happy place because I literally feel no pain! A word of caution, I have run into times when cannabis has made my symptoms worse. This was due to I was using Sativa strand instead of Indica. I am fortunate to live in a state that allows both recreational & medical. If your state allows both definitely go for medical. The cannabis is grown under stricter regulations & I noticed a huge difference in the quality of the cannabis. I never use recreational cannabis.

I used to take CBD extensively, and I no longer due to cost. I initially took CBD (the kind with a bit of THC included) to wean off a large dose of Tramadol daily. That helped tons, and I took it every 1-2 hours for a while. I was taking the under the tongue oil, which is pretty inconvenient.

Oils and tinctures are very hit and miss. Some are quality, some don't work at all. CBD with THC is really the only useful CBD for pain, because it needs that small amount of THC to be activated. It doesn't make you high, or any other feelings of cannabis, just makes the oil more potent.

I find that CBD pills are more effective, because there's not chance of them washing away in your mouth. They also last longer than an hour, and you can dose much easier. It is an expensive route to go, but can be very effective. The brand I swear by is CBD Plus Oil capsules, with 15mg CBD per pill. They shipped online to my state, its worth a check on your area. They come out to 1$ a pill, and when I have no tolerance, 1 does the trick. If I'm using them regularly, I take 2-4.

Let me know if you have any questions!

I just spoke with a friend who was on opioids for her pain. The doctor took her off and she tried three different types of the CBD oil. She said none of them helped her and is no longer taking them.

I have been using CBD oil with a little THC in it. It is legal where I live. I started using it because so many of my "elderly" friends were using and really loving the improvement in their pain management.

My arthritis feels worse than the fibro most of the times and I was getting pretty down about the pain all of the time. I feel the CBD helps. I am still taking one Tramadol in the morning and some Tylenol at night. I don't take the CBD until after lunch and then just a small dose. I haven't taken a full dose yet. I am very cautious! It does decrease the amount of pain I have.

I think it is worth trying if it is allowed where you live. Just my experience. I don't feel drugged when I take it. But I do not drive after I take it.

Due to legally unavailable for CBD oil in my state, I purchased Cannibis Essential Oil from Edens Garden Made from hemp. (legal in all 50 states)

I found it works for me. I rub it with either coconut or olive oil on sore muscles. With the screaming tailbone or sciatic pain, I apply 1 or 2 drops without any additional oil and it takes away the pain for a while. There is no THC but it has given me relief when I think I am losing my mind from the pain.

I have Tramadol, but it doesn't even touch the pain, it just makes me feel sluggish.

Thanks everyone for all your awesome replies! My Dr. filled out paperwork for me to get medical marijuana card. There are is so much paperwork to put together it’s overwhelming. I don’t know if I’ll ever get it done! Don’t need anything to get opioids but for marijuana, that doesn’t kill thousands of people every year, it’s like I’m filing for a green card or something. With the CBD oil I’m a little afraid that it will actually kill off Lyme and cause me more pain rather than less. It seems like most herbal things I try I end up getting bacteria die off symptoms. My detox pathways are terrible and get die off very easily. Just want something to help the pain rather than make it worse. Guess I won’t know unless I try.

I take just started taking CBD oil - 1ml twice per day. You have to start with a smaller dose then work up to the full dropper (1ml). The oil is the most effective way to take it. I have restless legs and it solved that problem right away. Now I sleep at night. I am taking Cymbalta, and I am going to try to ease off. CBD oil makes me peppy, I feel like doing more. I believe I am in less pain, but when I sometimes when I do have pain, I take a mild muscle relaxer.

You have to get full spectrum pure CBD hemp oil with the whole plant. It is legal in almost all states. I don’t take marijuana because the hemp oil works. The rich CBD is in the hemp plant. Doctors mix hemp oil with a little THC from the marijuana plant.

I get mine from:

WHATTAMARKET COM

I get the 1,000 mg size.

Thanks so much for sharing your positive experience! I think I’m going to give it a try. Even if it doesn’t help with pain but helps in other ways, it still might be worth it.

I have Sjogren's Syndrome with fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, IBS attacks and was in so much constant pain from the fibromyalgia. Before the "War on Opioids", I was prescribed 30 tramadol for 90 days. That's one tramadol pill every 3 days. I only used it when needed and, even then, it only took the edge off of my pain - did not eliminate it. 30 pills over 90 days shows I was NOT addicted to them (actually less than 30 because I stashed the extras in case and, as it turned out, I needed that stash). My rheumatologist stopped prescribing the tramadol. I suppose it was because I was abusing them by taking one or two a week on average! Sarcasm, obviously. My son told me to try CBD oil. I didn't expect much, but at some point, you'll try anything. I took one dropper on a Saturday afternoon. The next morning I had no fibro pain - before I even took the morning dropper. I have not had major fibro pain since last February. I'm taking Charlotte's Web CBD oil - maximum strength (60 mg). Not only has my fibro pain almost totally gone, but my IBS has subsided, too. Unfortunately, it hasn't helped my arthritis much, if at all, but getting rid of the fibro pain has literally saved my life. Please try it. I hope it works for you, too.

Hi, Donna, and welcome! I’m so glad that this has worked for you. As you know, we have to try a variety of things to see what will work for us. Our responses to medication are different. It’s more a trial and error type thing.

We don’t have many on this forum who use narcotics. They aren’t supposed to help much with fibro pain but I’m sure in some people they do. I was given Vicodin for extreme pain and it didn’t touch my pain so I was sent to a rheumatologist and was diagnosed with ankolosing spondylitis along with fibro. I was given a muscle relaxer called Robaxin that has made a significant difference in my pain.

I also take ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, magnesium malate, and vitamin D3 and these all help with my pain. Doing gentle exercises daily helps also. I walk as my gentle exercise and I also pace myself when doing things. All of the above have helped me live a full and enjoyable life in spite of my pain.

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you can learn a lot there also.

I do want to mention that I had to edit your above post. We don’t discuss suicide or doing anything illegal. It’s against our forum rules...Rule #1 to be exact. We have young members...as young as 13 years old...and they can be so impressionable. So please do read the rules. But, Donna, we do understand that type of intense pain so we don’t have to mention those types of things. We do “get it”.

Thank you, again for sharing your experience with the CBD oil. I’m looking forward to getting to know you better. Don’t hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

I take an Indica tincture to get better sleep. It helps break the fatigue cycle caused by not getting enough sleep. For pain guaifenesin works for me but i have to watch out for salicylates in my diet. For knotty muscles in my back that i can not massage I use a rubber ball while lying down on top of it.

There is no instant pain relief with guaifenesin. Just a slow improvement over time. If you want to appreciate your progress i suggest not to take anything with it and keep a daily record of how you are feeling. I can coach here.

Hi, Gerardswellness, and welcome. I just wanted to pop on and welcome you to the forum. Thank you for your input too. What works for one with fibro doesn’t necessarily work for another. It’s more a trial and error type thing. But you have given others more ideas as to what might help them too.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are good links about fibro and you may learn a lot there.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you better. Don’t hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi All,

THC when taken orally is converted in the liver into another form that is more effective for pain. The effects are also longer lasting.

It is explained here in this link: https://www.rxleaf.com/11-hydroxy-thc-is-your-body-making-its-own-drug-and-exactly-why-edibles-can-kick-your-butt

Cheers,

Hey guys,

I'm a long-time lurker on this forum, for a long time I've been looking for a natural solution for pain. Of course, I also got taken with the CBD-hype, and while I got decent results, my results were inconsistent.

I started to do more research and read scientific papers about CBD, and what I've found is that for CBD to help with the more severe conditions like chronic pain, you need to take much larger amounts than what's advised by the CBD producers.

Now, the problem is that when taking such large amounts of CBD, you're going to spend a lot of money on CBD. This doesn't mean that it's not worth it, but it's going to potentially cost you a lot.

A good article explaining CBD dosages I found here:

It's an interesting read for anyone using CBD oil.

I took the link out because it was selling products. Please read the forum rules again. Thanks.
