My general doctor told me to first start taking more Vitamin D with Calcium because a lot of my symptoms, like the exhaustion, hair loss, skin problems, and even my pain could be caused by a deficiency of Vitamin D, which was shown after my tests were taken.
After that, my GP, told me to start taking Amitryptaline (a tricyclic anti-depressant) which also has other benefits with things like neuropathic pain among others.
Since starting taking more Vitamin D, I have been feeling less tired, less heavy, and with less general pain. But, I still suffer from hot needle pain all over my body.
Since taking the Amitryptaline, I also feel less tired, but I am also a regular user of Kratom for pain and energy, and havent had any for about 3 weeks, and am wondering if taking Kratom makes pain and tiredness worse for me when I dont have it regularly. I am hoping to jump start my body by not taking it for a while.
As for the amitriptyline, I am unsure about it. Most of the time I feel swirly, and dizzy, and tired.
If anyone has any experience with Amitryptaline and has fibromyalgia, and possibly depression, please tell me how it works or doesnt work, side effects, anything.

Hi looking4eden & welcome to Healing Well. It sounds like the low vitamin D was an issue since you are seeing improvement by increasing the dose. Do you know if your dr checked your B12 level when he did the others? I ask because low B12 can often cause neuropathic type pain.

Amitriptaline is old drug that is used off label for many different conditions. Most drs will start with a low dose & slowly increase it until the patient reaches a therapeutic level. If you are only taking one pill a day, I suggest you call your dr & ask if you can take it at bedtime. A lot of folks find by taking it at bedtime it helps them avoid a lot of the side effects. It is common for people to feel somewhat groggy when they first start it & this usually passes in a couple of weeks. If you decide to go back on the Kratom, I urge you to discuss taking Kratom with Amitriptaline. I know a lot of people say Kratom helps them, but the FDA & CDC say it is not legal in the states.

Sherrine is the moderator in this forum & she can give you lots of information about Fibro. I do not have it, so I cannot help in that area. Take care.

Hi, Looking4eden, and welcome! I’m so glad to see that you are taking Vitamin D3 and calcium! Both can help with pain. Many are low in vitamin D because we are inside more and use sunscreen when we are outside. I live in sunny Florida but yet was very low in vitamin D. There are few foods that have vitamin D in them. We get it mostly from the sun. I take two Citracal a day and 5,500IU of D3 a day.

I take vitamin D, magnesium malate, ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin that has made a significant difference in my pain. But, what works for one with fibro doesn’t necessarily work for another. It’s more a trial and error type thing. But you can get good suggestions on this forum.

I also walk daily as a gentle form of exercise. Exercise is good for fibro because if you sit or lay too long, you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. I also swim in the summer. Yoga is another good exercise. When I lived up north, I would use a walking in place video by Leslie Sansone because it was too cold and snowy to walk outside. She has a lot of these videos so you do want an easier one...if you go that route. The one I have is called the One, Two, Three Super Fat Burner. If I use it for fifteen minutes, it’s like I walked a mile.

I pace myself when doing things and get a gentle massage once a month from a massage therapist who has studied on how to massage a fibro client. All of the above has helped me live a full and enjoyable life in spite of this illness.

The pins and needles sensation can happen with fibro but, for me, it happens when my blood sugar is acting up. I’m diabetic. If you haven’t been checked for diabetes, it wouldn’t hurt to have that done. Many people have diabetes and have no idea they do! It damages kidneys, eyes, etc. so it’s a good idea to get that checked out if you have the pins and needles sensations.

I have never heard of Kratom. But, your pharmacist would be the one to ask! They are trained in medications and supplements and know what combinations work together. A good pharmacist is worth their weight in gold.

I don’t take Amitriptyline but looked it up on the Drugs.com site. The link below will tell you a lot about this medication. I will say that quite a few members over the years have used this medication with success. And I’m sure some didn’t have success. It’s like that with any medication. But if there were many problems with it, I don’t think it would be on the market now. We all hate taking medications but it’s good to know what you are taking and side effects. It’s our body after all. Some things I won’t take. It’s just my personal feelings. Anyway, the link will inform you and, if you have questions, bounce them off your doctor and/or pharmacist.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you better. Don’t hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

I took amitriptyline for years, but for an unusual reason: it's very drying. It was prescribed for me for chronic diarrhea which I had for some unknown reason; was just told that my system decided not to function correctly. The gastro doc said the dryness would help and it took a long time, but yes, it definitely did help.

I did get very sleepy while taking it, even though I took it before bedtime and I was sleepy much of the next day! Evidently, I'm sensitive to meds. Drinking more water helped a little. Perhaps you could ask for a smaller dosage or if you could take half a tablet?

I haven't heard of Kratom, so, sorry--I'm no help there.

Hope you get some good answers and find positive solutions. Best wishes and welcome! Keep posting with any questions.

Hi and nice to meet you.

It is hard to find something that works for long term pain and we all have to keep searching for what will work for us, with the help of our medical professionals we see. When reading your post I too had no idea what Kratom was so I did some reading. I hope you have discussed this with your doctor. As you know it's not an illegal drug but it can interact with many others with extremely serious reactions. If it were me I'd discuss it with my doctor to make sure it's safe to take. From what I read on the NIH site much of it is mixed with other compounds and deaths have been attributed to this.

Please be careful. Even though you just met us we all care very much about you and how you are doing. It's why all of us are here, to help each other get and feel better.
