Is this normal??  I beleive I probably contacted Hep C approx. 15 to 20 yrs ago now.  And, I seem to be getting more and servere symptoms especially the mood disorders, and mental functions.  But, when I speak to my doctors, they just kind of look at me like I am a nut.  Is there anything I should be taking for the symptoms, or does one just try to live with it.  My quality of life is and has been affected by this disease for many years, but I still keep trying to plod along and be 'normal'. When can a person give up?  Or can a person go on disability??

Hello LuckyLuLu and welcome to HealingWell.

When were you diagnosed with Hep C? What kind of doctors is the liver doctor? If in fact you are being seen by a GI doctor you should be referred to a Hepatologist if you have had Hep C for 15 or 20 years. Have they been doing any testing or have you had a biopsy?

What symptoms are you experiencing ?

Read some of our older posts, get educated. ........there's a wealth of information about this disease and things you can do.
But giving up should not be one of them. If someone was attacking you wouldn't you fight back? Well this disease is attacking you. You can't just turn the other cheek with this enemy. You need to fight it with everything you got.

You have found the best Hep forum on the net. You aren't alone anymore.....

Take care.........thoughts and prayers.......

I too have hep C and have had it for I think about26 yrs. I started having symptoms last Dec.
and thats when I found out I had it after tests.
I found this website and ask what I could do. I found the most helpful for me was watching my diet and trading  soda for water.Lots of water seems to help flush the toxin. I stay away from sugary foods and sweetners also. It would probably help to limit your meat and eat lots of fruits and veggies. I just wanted to share with you what has seemed to help me alot.

Luckylulu, what precisely are your symptoms?  I've had hep C since contracting it in the 60s and the only symptom I've ever had is extreme fatigue.  I also contracted liver cancer as a result of the hep, but had treatment and surgery over a year ago and am doing well.  I agree with the other posters.  Giving up is not an option...or shouldn't be.  I got disability, but it took me 2 years to get approved, and was based more on my artificial hips and the revisions on one of them, than the hep C.  I had filed once with hep C and neck pain from osteoarthritis and was turned down.  You would probably need to be close to needing a transplant, near death with end-stage liver disease, or have other issues, to get SS Disability.

Read through some of the older posts in this forum, particularly the ones that are informational.
