Hi all,
Went to  local Hepatologist today, follow up from U of M trip last month.
Both Doctors are recommending a Vaccine for Hep A & B.
I have Autoimmune Hep.
I thought I wasn't supposed to get "live vaccines"?
Dr. said if I ate out and got Hep. from food it would kill me.... shocked
What do you all think?

Hi Rhonda!

I thought the same.  Especially since a couple of visits ago to the hep, I asked if I should get my tetanus booster or wait till I stepped on a rusty nail.  He said, wait.  Then a couple of months later the hospital called and said it had been brought to their attention from Aetna that I hadn't had Hep A or B vaccination.  I checked and hep's office said, must have!  So I did.  It went fine!

I still don't know about flu vaccines though as they said when I got sick, absolutely not!

Diagnosed with AIH January 2007,
CMV (cytomegalovirus) June 2008
meds: Azathioprine 100mg + Prednisone 5mg

My husband has HepC/ cirrhosis of the liver and is currently on the waiting list for a transplant. Hep doctor says he must have Hep B vaccine before far as flu shot, he also had that and pneumonia shot....but with auto immune issues, that may be the difference.....

My husband had to get both the A and B vaccines to be placed on the list.

I haven't had either Hep A or B vaccines either and have been told not to get any live virus vacinations (due to the immune supppresants I am taking). I was able to get this years flu and pneumonia vaccines this year. When I talked to my primary care physican this week he said that neither of those are currently live and would not hurt me. Just an FYI.
