Hello, all!! I took hubby in to ER last night because his pain was so severe and he looked a little more "puffy" to was concerned about ascites,, they did a sonogram, no fluid. He is also having trouble breathing....mainly getting a good breath. Chest x-rays are fine. Blood work is fine, all things considered. His bilirubin is okay, creatnine okay, etc.....his current MELD is an 8. Basically, nothing anyone could find, sent him home, etc. But, we are being told that his liverr is probably just getting bigger and that's what is pressing on diaphram, etc making it hard for him to breath. I guess what I don't understand is that he is SOOOOO miserable, in an unbearable amount of pain, and there's nothing that can be done??? I mean, I know it has to get worse before he gets transplanted, but if his liver is getting bigger, how much bigger does it have to get before he just pops. He is also a little confused right now....ammonia is up.....pushing extra lactulose. Anyone else have this issue with no ascites, extreme pain and more enlargement?? Is there something that I should be asking the doctors that I am missing, forgetting, etc......
Very frustrated right now because he's in so much pain and I cannot do anything to help.......

Hi Mary,

Did they check his gallbladder? If he's developed stones they are excruciating sometimes . My husband didn't have so much fluid in his abdomen that he ever needed to have drained but with the enlarged liver if he retained even a little fluid he had trouble breathing. When that happened the docs would usually up his lasix and aldactone for a few days. Call his hepatologist and let him/her know what going on.

Hang in are doing good. Give your self a little power deserve it.

Thoughts and prayers............
