What kind of insurance was the person applying for? If this person is in the USA, he should apply (or have his wife apply for him) for SSI. If approved, then Medicaid would automatically be given. If denied SSI, there is an appeals process. What was the reason he was denied? Private insurance is no longer able to deny someone for pre-existing conditions, but one has to be pretty darned sick to get Medicaid. Here in FL, if there are no minor children in the home and the person applying is not blind or deemed disabled by Social Security, one can't get Medicaid. I went through this when I had my first hip replacement
and revision. I had no insurance, was in the hospital 7 wks., and the university hospital I was in had to absorb the cost as I didn't qualify for Medicaid (and believe me, they tried hard to find a loophole.)
If you can tell us what type of insurance he was denied, perhaps members can come up with more info for you.
