There was a post a couple of weeks when my complaint to my doc was pain in my abdomen or upper right side of liver. He told me to up my lactulose from 2 tablespoons to 3 or 4 and cut my diuretics to 40 mg.'s of lasix from 80 and 100 mg.'s of spironolactone from 200. He wanted to see if I could maintain my weight with this dose. At the time my weight was 184lbs. or 185 lbs. and it took less than 2 weeks to go over the 190 lb. plateau. He said if you go over 190 go back to the double dose. Yesterday, I was 191.4 lbs and started the double dose again. It is very despiriting because my liver still needs the help to process fluid at this dose which I have been on over a year and a half. According to my doc, he wants me to off of these meds before trying the combo, Ribavarin, Interfueron and whatever else they give you. This all started with my gall bladder removal on 07/07/2009. It is almost 2 years, now! Will the liver ever correct itself or reverse back to some normality? I stay dedicated to a very low sodium everday, I get out and walk for excercise everyday, and I do not skip meds. Post surgery I was asymptomatic. My thoughts were, after this long was that the liver would do some kind of healing. I guess when you get to the decompensated stage or diagnosed with cirrhosis it is all downhill from there. With alcohol all you have to do is stop drinking and it should repair itself unless you have gone too far. With Hep C it just gets worse or you just maintain with meds but no reversal in health. Believe me, my health is a lot better than a year ago. It just seems that I am at a stalemate here and want to take the next step into getting healthier.
