Kjnval, I also want to welcome you to the forum. You will find lots of spouses, loved ones, partners here with the same situation. As Dany mentioned, it's possible for him to turn this around if he stops drinking--completely and forever. Much depends on how bad his cirrhosis is. If he continues to drink, he will go even further downhill.
Are they giving him Lactulose for the high ammonia? Maybe you can tell us more about his condition once you are there with him. The hallucinations could be from alcohol withdrawal and the confusion from hepatic encephalopathy (high ammonia.)
His MELD is so high that he would be listed for transplant---EXCEPT that he doesn't have 6 mos. of documented sobriety in AA or in approved alcohol counseling. It's different for different centers, but they all require 6 mos. sober.
I hope that if he comes out of this, he will understand and accept that he cannot resume drinking.
