I received a certified letter from Mayo today. It stated that my case had been presented to the Transplant Committee, but that a decision couldn't be made until I completed the kidney test (done yesterday) and had seen the kidney/pancreatic doc for followup (will be on July 6th.) Also that I had SW clearance for a caregiver plan. They didn't mention the Pap test or mammogram, but those are coming up.
Well, the caregiver plan is still evolving. I managed to reach Bill today and he is now in Orange Park Medical Center. He said he put himself there because he didn't feel that the rehab place was doing anything for him. Thurs. it will be 3 weeks since he first entered the hospital. His voice sounds stronger, but he tires easily. He said they have done a scan of his chest with contrast at O.P. Med. Cntr. and took blood. Since he was a heavy smoker and already had enphysema (on 2 inhalers and nebulizer treatments at home), plus let the pneumonia get so bad before finally getting it checked out, I think it's going to take some time for him to fully recover. Or they could be missing something.
At any rate, this has necessitated me considering my secondary caregiver (Karen) changing to primary. I spoke to her briefly about what is going on, but she was in the middle of painting her kitchen and will hopefully call me back later.
I called the SW and updated her and also noted the probability of her being my primary caregiver, if she will agree. She will need to attend a caregiver class (held only on Mon. AM) whether she's primary or secondary.
I was able to sleep 12 hours (though up and down a few times) and am taking it easy today. I feel a lot better.
P.S. LATER - Karen called back and has agreed to be my primary caregiver. She can give me 2 weeks and will come here for a week when I'm discharged. She thought that would be best and I'm also a whole lot closer to Mayo She's going to be out of town 4 x in the next 6 mos., so we can only hope that my transplant doesn't happen during those times. She will be available in July after the 12th, all of Aug., all except the 3rd week in Sept., and all of Oct.. She will be out of town the beginning of Nov. and again in Jan. However, I don't think we will need to worry about Jan.
