My husband passed away February 12. He was 47 years old. As you all know this disease doesn't care about age. The disease advanced quickly in the last 2 weeks of his life. He had a massive bleed a few years back after that the main thing he battled was encephalopathy. In mid January he had a few small bleeds in his stomach which the doctors repaired. At the end of January he was hospitalized with high ammonia levels. They expected to send him home on 2 different occasions. It never happened. While there his kidney function started worsening what seemed to be overnight. All his labs were extremely worse. We weren't expecting that. I guess we expected it to be more gradual since he had fared so well compared to many others with the disease. It seems that all the bad things started happening right at the end for him. His INR was so out of whack that his lungs started bleeding. They had to place him on a ventilator. Everything started bleeding. There was talk of kidney dialysis one minute and then the next minute not. There was a lot of that. The doctors saying we are going to do this and then we are not going to do this.

I'm sorry that I haven't been here and been more supportive of you all. I just couldn't handle it. All the sad happenings. Even though there have been a lot of happy endings here also. I spent a lot of the last few years living in denial. One thing I have learned is no matter how much research you do you can never be totally prepared when it comes to the disease. Everyone's battle with it is different.

Butterflythree,

It is good of you to post here at this sad time.

No, not all the endings are happy endings. It is a cautionary tale to any with liver disease who do not treat their condition with their total committment to living a clean life and taking their meds as prescribed.

I paged back through your postings from 2010 and 2011 and see he attempted a Hep C treatment...but in the end liver disease was too much for his system.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve. Feel free to visit as often as you are able. I will bump up the grief threat as others may want to share as well.

Hugs,

Carol

Butterfly,

I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
No apologies needed for staying away...no one should apologize for taking care of theirself. There is much sadness here, and also the happy endings. I spend alot of my time in denial too. Since my husband is doing well, I don't think much about him being sick...only when he has his doctor appts, etc. Last month when he had a banding and then had to go to ER after because he kept throwing up...well, that's when the reality hits you in the face. But for now, I am in denial, because I don't think I could take the weight of the fear and sadness.

Again, I will keep you in prayer that you find peace. So sorry about your husband's passing.

Dear Butterfly, My heart goes out to you, I am SO sorry, I to am in the state of denial, don't want to think about the future. Every time I start to think about things going ok I remember back to the night we got introduced to the desease of Cirrhosis, after a massive bleed the morning of Sept 20, 2011. I have learned so much over the months, things I wish I didn't have to learn. Again, my thoughts are with you, try to take care of yourself and remember the goods times with him. Pat

I send my regards and sorry to say but I am walking your path. Will probably lose my hubby to ESLD, as he is now in nursing home and sometimes doesn't recogize me as his wife. My heart hurts for you.
