Themister is 5'8" and had an avg. weight of 170lbs. since he was 18. He is now almost 63. His pants were a 32" all those years. If anything, he eats less. He does not have ascites, but since Xifaxan, has moderate edema from knees down.
3 years ago, he gained 5lbs and I chalked it up to age, bought him 34" pants. It was not a big deal, but he hated it. His shirts were all a size M, and still fit fine. He moved up another 5lbs after he became SVR. Nothing changed in his eating habits, except he was concerned about his weight. Since TIPS Jan. 2013, he has gone to 198-200lbs, and still has no ascites. He wears a 36" pant...tight, and his Large shirts are tight.
This weight is all around the waist. Themister just hated this last year, has tried to cut his eating, but continues to gain. When Butterfly mentioned her husband was growing out of his clothes, I was going to ask this question.
No one is heavy in his family gains weight in age....they all are athletic built, regardless of diet, age or exercise. There is really nothing but his ESLD to attribute this to.
I would love to know from board posters if this is abnormal, or did it happen to you?
