hi valarie, wow! sorry to hear this news. after he recovers you will need a referral to a liver doc. the dr wiil run numerous blood tests, ultra sound, and biopsy if the hospital did not do it. this will give you and your dr the info necessary to make an informed decision on how to proceed. your dr can start the ball rolling on treatment or may take a wait and monitor route.
i will assume you have never treated your hep c. with a tx naive status, you will be eligible for 3 or 4 new txs that are awaiting approval.
try not to stress too much. the prognosis for hep c has improved by leaps and bounds.
when starting with a new dr, there are some question s that you might want to ask
1. experience treating hep c
2. how they handle side effects of tx
3. at what point do they tx blood disorders(low wbc and low
4. this is important; being able to contact dr or treatment nurse with concerns, and have them answered the same day. my treatment nurse gave me a number to call if things got scary.
