Dear Munch, ppm guy, MamaLama and bblt,
Thank you so much for responding. Thank you for your much needed information. I don't drink alcohol or smoke anything. I did drink occasionally during my early 20s and 30s, but maybe smoked a pack of cigarettes in my entire life.
My Mom died 32 years ago from chirrohis, HE and my aunt, her sister, died of this two years later which I told both my pcp and GI dr. as they were running tests on me over the last year and a half and could find nothing until an Emergency Room admission on the afternoon of June 26, 2014. While in the ER I had a CT scan done without contrast because I am allergic to that, and also an x-ray. What I can't understand with this ER visit/admission is that my blood work was normal with liver function studies. ER doc suggested I stay the night and the next morning more tests could be performed. The next day, June 27 I had an Ultrasound performed on I know my liver, but maybe my spleen, pancreas also. Later in the day, an attending physician or rounds doc came in my room and advised me the Ultrasound showed a fatty liver. He gave me Recommendations: lose weight, eat a heart healthy diet and exercise. He was very nonchalant as if it was no big deal. Told me to follow up with my PCP and if necessary my GI doc (both of whom had all the blood work and tests done on me, but neither recommended an Ultrasound). I went home later that evening. A little over a week I saw my PCP who listened to my story and saw that my discharge paperwork said "fatty liver" - he looked over my previous test results and prescribed a little pill I take each morning on an empty stomach (at this moment I have forgotten the name of the prescription), but it is not metformin, it is for my thyroid. I have to go back to him in 3 months. I also have an appointment with my GI to inform him of my fatty liver, etc. and I guess would get a referral to a liver doctor/hepatologist???? I don't have much faith in either one of these doctors, but my PCP said over the last year and a half each blood work test came back normal. I know he ordered tests for my liver studies / enzymes??? which were normal. How could they be normal if I have had stomach pain and discomfort in particularly on my right side and under my breast/upper stomach area for a little over l-l/2 years? Unfortunately, I do not have any of my blood work results, but I can get them from my PCP next week. What I don't understand is how would a CT scan not show a fatty liver, but the Ultrasound does???!!! Tho I thank God some test did show why I have been feeling unwell and I am not just crazy. Anyway, I will see the GI doc in another month, but I am scared to death - I think I am going to die soon. I am watching my weight - I am 30 pounds over weight, I lost 10 pounds the first week I got out of the hospital, but I don't have a scale so I have to buy one for home next week. My exercise problem is that I have 2 replaced hips and 2 replaced knees, unfortunately. I also have asthma which at the moment is under control, but it is hard to work for too long a period of time, but I believe I must try. Please don't forget me as I am very scared. Could some of you very nice folks tell me what doctor(s) I should be seeing???? I have no support system whatsoever at this time, so you all are very important to me. Thank you. Kathy
