Dougie had most recent labs and ultrasound this last week. All LTFs and other blood work are in normal range. This is the first time since he was dx with cirrhosis 4+ years ago that his bilirubin has been in the normal range. Ultrasound was stable. Liver cancer blood test was in normal range too. This has been the best Christmas gift we could receive. He has been working on his sobriety, and his success these last six months show in his lab results.

I am still attending al anon meetings, and find strength there. Even though these have been a great six months with him, I know that sobriety and good health are precious gifts. I am trying to stop future projecting and live day by day.

I wish for all of you a safe and peaceful New Year's Eve and good health in 2015.

You have all helped Dougie and I since he was dx with liver disease. Thank you all so much.

Hugs,
Emma

Emma,
I am so happy to see your post tonight. You must be very happy to see Dougie's numbers in the normal range. I am so happy things are on the upswing for you and him.

It is great you are finding strength and help from al anon. The tools you have can get you through much. I always believe in hope and love. And peace. Your home must have more of that with Dougie having some sobriety. You both have a wonderful New Year, Emma. Big Hugs

Does that mean Doug is not imbibing at all?

David,

I believe he is not imbibing. However, I am in the process of learning to live with never knowing 100%. His labs would indicate thst he is not drinking. And my observations of him would come to that same conclusion. But, I am not with him 24/7, so I will never truly know. For today, I am good with that. Trying to use my Al Anon program to live with uncertainty and to know that ultimately his sobriety and health are his responsibility, not mine.

Best,
Emma

Emma.....

You hit the nail on the head: we must practice "how to live with uncertainty..."

Everyone at this site knows what that is about!!!

Emma,

It takes what it takes and so glad you are doing well and are happy. You keep going to al anon and build up that tool collection for your al anon tool belt:) It sounds like this works well for your peace in your home and your heart.

If Dougie is sober today, I am thrilled for him. And you. His numbers are in normal range, something everyone here longs for.

We are all human and being human means our job description is to make mistakes. I think we all do a fine job of that. Living with uncertainty is a given at our house. Big Hugs Emma.

Thanks Emma. I didn't quite know what to make of your post. Now I understand.
