Crissiex02...welcome to our liver forum.
There are lots of posters here...patients and loved ones dealing with all types of liver related issues...plenty dealing with HE...read back posts. There is a search tab in blue where YOU can enter a word or phase or posters name and read lots about
one thing or another.
The big difference between HE and dementia is that HE is reversal. Dementia is not.
We have dealt with both at our house...partner had HE before transplant and I am caregiver to a sis with dementia now.
Both have confusion, but HE, to me seems more episodic, has much grumpier affect, and causes long sleepy periods. The dementia is taking a more well documented path..."what time is it, where are we going, what time is it, where is my house, what time is it...etc. You get the idea...lost in time and space. Both need lots of help. I see some here who deal with it on their own, but after seeing Mike so messed up, I can't imagine them being on their own and getting the meds right, or cooking a meal. I have tons of respect for those going it alone!!!
Like themiz I'm curious if you have a long term game plan. Transplant? Is he sober now?
Let us hear from you,
