Can someone interpret the following:
Macrovesicular Steatosis
Mild Portal Inflammation, No Interface Hepatitis Identified
Foci of Mild Lobular Chronic Inflammation
Trichrome Stain Showing Stellate Portal Fibrosis
I have to meet with Dr. in 2 weeks. The biopsy was done due to continued abnormal liver function testing.
Thanks

hi Gateway43, and welcome,
the biopsy gives you a inflamation and liver damage assessment. it uses certain stains to show iron, copper and type of damage.
you have "non alcoholic fatty liver disease".
your iflamation is mild with no interface (necrosis)
the trichome stain is used to stage your damage and tell whether you have fibrosis or necrosis.
you didn't include the metavir grade and stage.. but your info shows you have mild inflamation and non cirrhotic.
best of luck and let us know how your getting along

Thanks,
There is no score.
The descript
ion of the trichrome stain is variable portal fibrosis with short stellate septa, focal perivenular fibrosis and focal pericellular fibrosis
Reticulin stain is portal fibrosis with short fibrous septa, no cirrhosis
Sure I will need treatment and also hoping to stop or reverse this damage.

now that you have a diagnosis, you CAN reverse this. Talk to your dr about
life style changes, and checking your A1C and lipid tests. Ask the dr, about
waiting on treatment.
I had cirrhosis up until 2012. I cured hep c, quit drinking and started eating lots of fruit and vegetables. I eliminated all simple carbs. I also started lifting weights and doing squats holding on to the kitchen counter.
I am now 66 years old and have a healthy, regenerated liver. I was very lucky

Can someone give me idea of the grade and stage from the trichrome and rericulin stain? I couldn't find it anywhere on the biopsy report. I'm new to all this.
Thanks

I would put your grade at 1.. and your stage at f1 to possibly f2.
macrovesicular is the mild type of steatosis..
your portal inflammation is mild
and mild lobular chronic inflammation
so mild is grade 1
you staging info, lacked language that would be stage 3. which would be bridging fibrosis with many septa. perivenular and pericellular fibrosis would be stage 1. focal portal fibrosis can be stage 2. so f1 to f2.
only your dr can tell you for sure. I research viral hep, and have no experience dealing with patients.
I double checked myself using
tpis.upmc.com/tpislibrary/schema/steatohepstag
your dr has all your bloodwork and imaging to give you a much better evaluation.

Thanks
I just want to be prepared for appointment and can admit some anxiety at this point.
