Not a liver post.

So, as luck would have it...

Several weeks ago I was in Houston tending to my appendix cancer follow up. I got a good report AND my pancreas tumor is benign at this time. Woo Hoo.

But, I was supposed to leave Houston on Saturday the 26th of August just when HARVEY hit town. I took a flight out, whew, missing my last appointment, but boy I was lucky. Mike usually comes with me, but he stayed in town to be available to Alzheimer's sister who I have mentioned before.

I returned to Florida where I live, only to be in the path of Irma. We headed north last Thursday, and found a motel in Savannah...which was subsequently under a mandatory evacuation, as we were east of I95. And so we drove to a nephew's in Atlanta. Then found an Air B&B rental downtown...where we are still waiting to hear that the highways are not a mess driving south. And that you can buy gas in Florida. Stations have no power some places and distribution of fuel has been impaired.

I am still with Mike and Alzheimer's sister....our homes in Florida are fine, we put up those big metal shutters before we left. Power back on in Florida, so all should be well.

WE did have one wrinkle. In the middle of the night Saturday, before the storm got bad here, sister must have gone looking for the bathroom in a strange place and scooted out the apartment door...on 7th floor of a large apartment building. I went to bed at 1...with her to keep an eye on her...and when I woke at 4, she was gone (and the cat also). I woke Mike and we looked, we woke nephew and wife and they looked and we called 911. ATlanta's finest arrived promptly and got a search thing going in and out of the building, called hospitals, sent her picture to everyone and were about to put it on the TV and highway signs when the building security saw her by the loading docks on their camera system. The building has a fob system, syou cant' reenter without the fob key. An officer brought her back to us. And get this, she was not upset. As a matter of fact, she now has NO memory of leaving, being lost, being onside in the 69 degree weather in her pjs in bare feet. I have 500 more gray hairs and continue to sleep with her...with one eye open. GASP.

Mike took her for a big walk this morning to give me some "quiet" time.

All is well that ends well. Except we have lost the cat. She doesn't remember the cat either.

Hope all in Harvey and Irma areas are safe and dry.

And those in liver disease land are having a gentle day.
