I haven’t been here in a while and was wondering about ascites and what to look for while i wait to aee Dr next month for ny physical. I have noticed an’low hanging gut’ amd handles which i can grab both on front and sides. I can also suck it in all the way as well and when I lay on floor flat it ‘goes away’. when i turn to aide it seems to sink to the floor though. was dx with fatty liver a few years back and have been trying with mixed results to change habits. i guess just looking for any past experiences others have have whether early or later ascites.

hi gmoney and welcome,
has your fatty liver progressed to cirrhosis?Ascities is almost always a symptom of cirrhosis. I assume you are seeing your primary care dr, since you are going for a physical. Do you have a GI dr following your fatty liver? If you are seeing a GI, I would direct your symptoms to GI.If you are not, let your primary know about your concerns.Your dr can order a ultrasound of abdomen, along with your bloodwork..let us know how your visit goes..

Hello, I can tell you that my ascites problem was not gradual it started in my lower legs overnight and progressively got worse and further up traveling to my belly over the course of a day later. I couldn't understand what was happening, Kinda figured it was drinking too much Gatorade (sodium) during work and always on my feet. When it hit my stomach I was already hospitalized and slipping into a coma. Liver and kidneys both shut down. Woke up sbout 5 days later in another hospital in ICU. Belly swelled out so tight it was like a basketball under a tee shirt. Almost 20 liters of fluid pulled out of me the next day. Not all cases are as extreme as mine, Very few with exception to alcoholics which I am (Non practicing) but not of recent. Seek the advice of your docs and really study the potentials that comes along with cirrhosis. I guess ya already doing that considering you found this site. Don't get hung up on doom and gloom it can make a bad situation worse. Take things daily.
