Hi everyone,
I am desperatly trying to find out what is going on with my body.
It all started in Jan. 2003. One day after work I had to lay down due to the worst fatiuge I have ever had and my whole body aching. I lost my apitite and would wake up just to drink a bit. I thought I was coming down with the flu, but the cold never showed up. After about a week I started feeling alot better. I was so happy, but it was short lived. That same night I started to feel a bit weak and very sick to my stomach, I had a bad taste in my mouth and I had a burning sensation in my stomach. After a few days of feeling sick to my stomach I finally decided to go to the ER.
I was admitted into the hospital and put on IV. The next morning I was feeling better, but when the doctor came around on his visit he told me my Lft's were elevated. He was asking me if I had been out of the country and so on. Anyhow, at the same time I was sooo much better. When I told him that I felt better, he said that he wanted to do some blood tests and that I could go home that morning if my Lft's came back lower then they had been the night before. They did and I was sent home and told to have my Lft's rechecked in 3 months.
The hospital called me a week later telling me that they didnt find anything on the tests they had run. No hep, mono or any of the usual stuff they look for. I felt great, went back to work and had my Lft's checked 3 months later. They were normal.
Looking back I realized that I started having joint pains a few months prior to this episode. I hav also had general hairloss and a itchy scalp. These problems continue to stay with me and in June this year I started feeling sick again. This time it started out with a flu-like feeling. Then my bowels started to change, I had a burning pain in my back, my stomach was on fire and I could feel pressure in my upper right quadrant. They joint pain intensified even tho it was still mild and it even spread.
After a week , I was put in the hospital because I was having heavy diarreah. After a colonscopy they found ulcers through out my whole colon. I was diagnosed with infectious colitis and sent home with an appointment to a GI 2 months later. The only blood test that didn't come back normal was my wbc (it was just out of range 12,8 and so on). At the time they sent me home my bowels were alot better, but I was having spells where my feet would turn ice cold and then I would get the flu-like feeling all of a sudden. I remember telling the doctor over and over again about my feet, but it didnt seem to concern him much.
Anyhow.. at the moment my symptoms are mostly the same, I am fatigued to the point where I will fall asleep as soon as I have a chance. I have the bowel problems that seem to be under control and I have been put on a low dose of asacol for that. I still have the pain under my right ribcage and this pain has been getting worse by the day, even tho it comes and goes. My feet go ice cold and I still get the flu-like feeling. My back is full of pimple-like lesions that itch. I also have a very itchy body (had that for a while) and my palms have started itching recently. I have a burning pain in my stomach area and I have a bad metalic tast in my mouth, not to mention the joint pain and the fact that I have been having attacks of mild nausea as well.
No one is able to tell me what it could be. I am aware that it could be a whole lot of things, and I guess autoimmune hepa*** is what I am thinking about at the moment. I am actually wondering how sensitive the LFT tests are. Is it possible to have liver problems with out the Lft's being elevated?
Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the long post... and thanks for your time!

Hi Christine welcome to our forum. So sorry that you are having so many health issues. Have you gone to your GI yet? If not ask him/her about your gall bladder. That sharp pain under your rib cage that comes and goes along with the nausea could mean you may have gall stones. Especially if you notice that pain coming on after you have eaten. A CT scan or upper GI can be done to diagnois that. I have FM and it affects my joints and my bowels as well. But I haven't a clue as what may cause your other symtoms. But this is a great forum and am sure that others will jump on board and give you some ideas. Take care.............Pink Grandma :-)

Hi guys, and thanks for your replies...

Food has no impact on my pain. It comes and goes as it pleases. Although I do feel best in the morning. I have been under the care of a GI since June, but still no help. I have had 3 ultrasounds of my liver/gallbladder - all normal. I have also been tested for everything as far as the bloodwork goes. Nothing to be found, other then a slightly elevated WBC. I am seeing a rhumey for the jointpain and am also being followed up by my GP.

I guess I am just frustrated not know what the heck is wrong with me.

Welcome to the forum. I can certainly understand your frustration It took nearly three years and several doctors before I was diagnosised with AIH. I know during that time I questioned my own sanity and at times felt I was treated as if this was "all in my head". What I understand about this disease though is that symptoms can be different for everyone and what you are experiencing may or not be anything serious. Trish is right that you need to find a competent GI/ hepatologist that you feel comfortable with and is willing to talk to you about your symptoms and is understanding of your frustrations.

Good luck to you and hope that you find the answers that you need.
