As most here are aware, I had the right lobe of my liver removed on the 15th, due to cancer caused by hep C.  They got all the cancer (yippee!!), but I have cirrhosis in the left lobe.  I had the liver cancer for 2 years.  Most of it had been killed prior to surgery, with 2 different treatments, one of them part of a Mayo study.  I was only in the hospital a week, and have been home for a week.  I had a large amount of drainage, but it is easing off now.  Also, I had 2 incision sites that looked red and infected in spots.  The surgical P.A. called in Keflex for me, 4 a day.  The infection (which was slight) is now clearing up.  The inside stitches must be very tight; it feels like I'm wearing a girdle.  There are no staples or stitches on the outside--not even Steri-Strips.  I can't eat much at once, and nothing heavy.  My potassium was doubled to 40 mg a day, but I just cannot get those huge tablets down.  I have 10-mg potassium in capsule form, so am taking 4 of those a day.  I also got an Rx for Percocet for pain, to alternate with my Lortab (which I take for disc problems of my C-spine and back.)
I felt better when I first got home than I have in the past 2 days.  I've probably been doing a little too much, though I try not to.  I spent yesterday and today in bed and slept quite a bit.  Am feeling better now.
I will have follow-up blood work and a visit with the P.A. and/or surgeon on Wed. A.M.  I will find out then what the plan is for me.  I am hoping that the small portion of liver that is regenerating will be healthy enough to get me through a few years.  The last thing I want right now is more surgery!   nono
I will give another update after Wed.

Sounds like things are going well following your surgery. I am so happy for you. I am sorry that you have been tired and not feeling as well for the last couple of days but hopefully that will subside soon. 'Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Glad to hear that everything is going well, aside from the infection.  Isn't it amazing how fast the liver can regenerate?  Hopefully one day we can use this characteristic to develop hepatic genetic therapies, but that's another story.  You are in my prayers, and please let us know how things go (if you are willing)

I am glad your doing better now and that the infection is clearing up. Eat healthy,,,,,,,,feed that liver what it needs to rejuvenate,,,but in small amounts of course:) You are an amazingly strong woman Connie, :huge hug: take it easy on yourself, I know how it is when you feel better and want to go, go , go,,,,,,just give yourself time and your strength will catch up with your mind! take care

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body used up ,totally worn out and screaming"WOOOOHOO WHAT A RIDE!!!"
