This is a true story...... I have been feeling much better, alt & ast were almonst normal.... but then I decided I sould loose weight and started eating carrots as a snack instead of junk food.
Well, I turned Orange-  mainly hands and feet,
the Dr. saw me and said "I can't believe you are orange".   What did you do?
Apparently, carrots are high in Vitamin A and it is stored in the liver.... Well, I ate so many carrots I
aggravated  my liver and my counts doubled.
I am slowly turning back to normal.....
Watch the Carrots !!!!!! yeah

I know that can happen, must've been eating a heck of a lot of carrots! Did your eyesight improve? Everything should be done in moderation. You could eat celery instead...but not the entire stalk at once! I recommend popcorn and rice cakes. They offer crunch and few calories--but still, eat them in moderation.

The liver cleansing diet suggests carrot and celery juice every morning.  I started having this regime but over time husband has taken over the juicing (he's retired) and we now have much less carrots and celery and much apples, oranges and any other fruit that's around.

My doctor said fresh carrots could not cause a major problem.  Vitamin A supplements apparently can cause toxitity in the liver but not natural Vitamin A.

i have heard of people becoming orange but never actually believed it.  I was having about five carrots a day at the start and had no colour change.  you must have been really having heaps!!

Take care.

Hello all!

I too had heard about turning orange from carrot consumption but Wow! that really must have been a lot! Thanks for letting us know! I will definitley not do that....I'm not sure what my levels are at since this is the longest stretch since I've been to the doc (haven't been since August)...going in for bloods tomorrow though and hepatologist check up in November. Hopefully they are bili had climbed a bit as well as my lipase (pancreatic test) the last time so they didn't adjust my pred...sucky. Shouldn't complain, only at 7.5mg/day with the 50mg Imuran. I'm training for the Breast Cancer 3-Day (Nov 9-11 here in San Diego---60 miles over 3 days in case you haven't heard about it)...this is my second year. With that and some caloric monitoring, I have been able to shed a lot of my pred weight!!! Woohoo!

Good luck to you Itsme....I know it's tough!

Hope all is well with everyone, you all sound great!!
