Can IBS cause an elevated sed rate or an elevated CRP?  Just wondering.

There is no inflammation with IBS.

There should not be an elevation in sed rate or CRP due to IBS. Usually (but not necessarily always) an elevation of either of those tests signifies an increased inflammatory response - which can be caused by many different problems.

CRP, also known as C-Reactive Protein, is a test which measures the concentration in blood serum of a special type of protein produced in the liver that is present during episodes of acute inflammation or infection.

Just FYI...people with an elevated CRP, chronically, have an increased risk of heart disease. Excess weight cause increased levels of inflammation in the body, so the CRP is one test they use to check your cardiac risk.
