Hello all. I'm wondering if anyone else has inflammation in the colon when only IBS is suspected? Or if inflammation can cause IBS?

Just trying to make sense of my symptoms..

Thanks!

At one point they did a CT with me and found inflammation and my primary care doc could feel some as well. Their explanation was that my guts were so irritated from get sick that they became inflamed. So it was an effect rather then a cause. And since it's been felt in multiple spots( not always at the same time) I believe them. In my non medically trained opinion I guess it's like when you get something on your skin and scrub it off. If you scrub too hard or for too long the area gets red and puffy. I can see that happening in my guts. Doesn't make it anymore fun though.

As far as IBS goes, there is no inflammation, with IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) there is, and I'd be suspicious of any doc that thinks that being irritated from IBS can bring on inflammation, I'd say that's IBD, and even though a patient can suffer with both IBD and IBS, the 2 should never be confused with one another.

There is no inflammation or bleeding from IBS (unless one has hemheroides) with IBD there can be both.

I'm with pb4 on this one.  Inflammation cannot cause IBS. I'm wondering if you had a colonoscopy with biopsies or how they found inflammation?
