Hi,  I've had IBS since college and I'm 45.  It had recently gotten so bad, I had horrid gas, bloating, and some things would cause diahhrea.  Haven't been able to drink coffee for a few years-heartburn.  So I did some reasearch being a natural kind of proponent, and I come to find that people start producing less digestive enzymes beginning at 5 years old.  I believe some people naturally have less than others like me.  My father had chronic digestive troubles all of his life as does my son.  My dad passed away from cancer and I think if he had followed the solution I found, he'd still be around.

Because of the lack of enzymes, I wasn't absorbing any nutrients and other problems developed like skin problems and arthritis.  I believe it was my body's way of removing toxins and reacting to not getting the right nutrients.  So I started taking a digestive enzyme formula with every single meal and even with a handful of peanuts or dried fruit.  I also started taking a fiber supplement (acacia) to keep the toxins rolling out.  Poof, all the IBS was gone.  Now, I can drink coffee if I want.  Additionally, I switched to a 80% alkaline, 20% acid diet, and feel that is better for me.   When my son, 14, takes the enzymes, he doesn't get gas.

I hope this helps some.  the digestive formula I use is from vitacost.com Source Naturals Daily essential enzymes.  It has al the enzymes you need to break down milk, proteins, fats, fiber and carbs.  Good luck & God bless.

olt, Thanks so much for your post. Im 50 had Ibs since 25, probably all my life but symptoms got worse with 2nd pregnancy. I was sitting here so upset cause have been on medical leave for 2 months to control chronic D. My Dr. said after all this time and test stool spec. showing food not being broke down and I am taking Viokase( an enzyme that pancreas produces) Have hoped that this would do it. I have such swelling that I look pregnant. I have had soreness and pain all over my body and thought it was dehydration. But after even after have good days still sore. I feel like such a hypercondriac sometimes. So many people with IBS are diagnosed with Fibromyalcia(spelling?) I really think that is just another tern like IBS, we dont know for Drs. I am having a really bad day and reading your post really did help. After 2 months and now owing so much in medical AGAIN I am feeling so bad I really needed to hear good news. I need to go to store, myu grandaughter 4 yrs old wants to come visit and I cant stay out of bathroom, having pain in legs, feels like the stage right before a charlie horse. I finally gave up and went on antidepressant because sometime it helps. I am now on Remeron once a day, Viokase 6 tablets before meals 3xday, immodium if needed to leave house. If the Viokase doesnt work I am going to start Donnatal in a week. I am already tired from Remeron so will really be tired. Im just crossing my fingers that the enzyme works. It sure didnt help at breakfast. I also have skin problems Derm. says is because of IBS. Thanks for sharing gave me some hope today.

I bought the brand olt mentioned. I've been taking it with meals since yesterday (I sprinkle 2 capsules onto the food) - I think my stomach is already feeling better.
I also started to take one wobenzyme before going to bed plus psyllium.
