I am 18 years old & was diagnosed with IBS when I was 14. I lived my whole high school career on taking Imodium every morning and it seemed to help, sometimes, but by the 2nd semester senior year I had to go to the bathroom almost everyday in the morning. I recently just got put on Bentyl and Flagyl, but I think I am going to stop taking Bentyl, because I feel so sick whenever i take it & I can't tell it's helped to much. Now with me going off to college in a month and living in a dorm and sharing a bathroom with everyone, I really need to get this under control. It's got to the point where when I have to go, I have to go ASAP! I don't want to sit in class and that happens to me. Does anyone have any advice on how to make it better? plleaseee!

Sorry bgirl, I still haven't been officially diagnosed with it and am still going through tests to get a diagnosis. My doc did say to have more fiber and eat things like apples to help alleviate diahrrea. She also said to try Metamusal(sp). I don't know how much that will help, but Malox and Pepto Bismo helped me somewhat with my last bout. Exercising is also getting my system moving more than it ever has so I'm having a little trouble with cramps and not knowing if its gas or a bowel movement. I know I'm not much help, but just know you aren't the only young person dealing with this. I'm only 22 and would like to have this more under control too for the fall so sitting in class for a couple hours is more comfortable.

Exercising, portion control, avoiding fast-foods, processed foods/beverages, taking fibre supplements and a good probiotic have all helped with my IBS issues and my crohn's issues as well.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

Hi Bgirl, I also have IBS but have most of it under control.  For diahreah and urges, I used to use Cholestyramine (Questran) take a glass of it and no uncontrollable D.  I also dont eat dairy or drink milk, only old cheese for some reason it doesnt bother me.  A quality yogurt helps too.  Good luck,  hope you find relief soon.
