Hello,

I'm pretty new here but I read a lot of interesting forums provided by members. I recently had somekind of a IBS and was diagnosed to have hiatus hernia (non erosive reflux disease). I've had NERD for about 9 mths and went for endoscopy which the dr deemed to be NERD. However recently (abt 1.5 mths back) I had a change in the bowel system which I thot is IBS. Initially i thot it was somekind of diarrhea but then as days go by the bowel system changed. It didn't go away for a few weeks. But I'm ok at eating anything caffeine, choco, spicy food.. it doesn't give me any problems except that during the bowel movement, I had soft stools and the stools float. The gastro specialist did not suspect anything but it is annoying to have that kind of bloatedness and gassy feeling after a while. The only thing tt is different is that I didn't hv the urge to go to the toilet. Does anyone had this before? Would appreciate your opinions. Thanks so much.

I am not sure if i am doing this the proper way. I have been told i have Barretts disease and showing pre-cancers cells. I have been on the medication Rabeprazole for 3 months, and i just had my second bisopey. I return to the Dr on the 17th and i have no idea what they can do for me, as he didnt tell me to much and i didnt ask as i was schocked. If anyone can offer me some advice that would be great. Thank you.

Zach, let us know what the Doctor says. I was diagnosed with Barretts about 8 years ago but didn't have the precancerous cells though I did have some changes in the tissue which is why it was called Barrett's. Mine has not shown up since. I don't mean to put you off but I would try and find a group on line that is for Barrett's as it is not common on this group. There are many new things they are doing for Barrett's which other people can inform you better about. I understand your feelings of shock as I was scared to death. If you "google" Barretts or acid reflux you will probably find out more info. I think there are some people on this forum under acid reflux that have Barretts but none that I remember on the the IBS forum.

Frankly, I have never head of NERD. Hiatal Hernia's are very common, probably over 40% of the people have them and they don't usually cause a problem. Anyone that has acid reflux should not eat chocolate, drink alcohol, drink coffee or eat peppermint whether it is erosive or not at this point. I wonder how they diagnosed your acid problem since it can't be seen unless you have erosive changes or you had a PH test. Many people have IbS and GERD but not everyone does. Most people have one or the other except for some lucky ones.
