It started about 3 years ago.... I get chronic gas, usually in the evening.   Nothing seems to help.  GasX and all the over the counter 'gas controllers' do nothing.  It is so embarrsing that I feel sorry for my husband.  I cut out almost everything in my diet and watched for 'triggers' and nothing seems to make sense.  The Drs cant find anything (1 test even had me eating glow in the dark eggs and sitting in a cat scan machine for 2 hours while they watched it digest).
I started taking enzymes, got some really good quailtiy ones at the health food store, they worked for about a week.  Got on priobatics, worked for a week.
There is no pain, it just smells really bad.   When I have a really bad episode I drink AlkaSeltzer and that seems to help, but who wants to live that way.
This is a big problem... Ive missed worked, missed evenings with friends, missed a lot of things becuase I know Ill stink up the whole room.  If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it!

One thing jumped out at me in your post. You mentioned evenings. Are you enjoying a large dinner meal each evening? If so, that might be your culprit (not exactly what you are eating but how much). I find that 4 to 6 very small meals a day are much better for my GI tract than 3 large meals (with dinner as my former largest meal). If I sit down after a busy day and enjoy a large dinner, I will pay for it. I will not only have multiple trips to the bathroom but I will experience gas as well. When I say small meals, I mean 1/2 of an english muffin or bagel for breakfast. 1/2 turkey sandwich for my lunch. Very small portions on my dinner plate, (half of all my long ago portions, small spoonful of potatoes or vegetables, very small salad portion, 1/2 of a chicken breast half, if that). In between these smaller 3 main meal times I might enjoy 1 slice of cheese, a handful of grapes, or half a banana, etc. Or just a full glass of water. Water is great for times you are hungry but you know if you eat, you will have trouble. Of course water can't take the place of food but when my gut is really out of whack, sometimes plain food, small portions, and water work wonders for me.

If you're worried about socializing with friends and dining out with them, glance over at the sides section of any menu. From this section, you could order just a baked potato and side salad. The waitress may look at you odd but too bad. I've tried this approach and I feel so much better. I didn't cave to waitress/peer pressure and after just a few seconds everyone forgot that is all I ordered. If anyone asks me why I'm ordering so little, I just fib and say oh that's all I want to eat tonight or I had a huge lunch today. You open yourself up to more questions if you say you feel so much better if you eat small portions. So I just shrug it off as I'm not all that hungry (when in fact I am). This is when you sip that glass of water too!

Just a few thoughts......
