eyes  Hi Everyone,
I have had IBS for over 20 years, I have been on every perscription drug, as well as all the fiber bills and powders. A few years ago, I decided to take my-self off all medication, and for 3 years, I went without any symptoms. Felt better off drugs. Well over the past 3 months, I have had extream Bottom gass, I am talking cheek squeezing gas. It is effecting my life in every way, the doctor told me just to let it out, well I have never F---ed in front of anyone, shy, I am getting married in 3 months, and it is so bad that I am thinking of calling my wedding off. I have a very low stress lecel in my life, I changed jobs twice, to get the one with the least stress, I work in the medical field. It is effecting even my sex life. Its at least 4 out of 7 days a week. It just comes on me, I dont eat fried, fatty foods, or gassy veggies. I stopped taking fiber because of the gas. My doctor last night, put me on Flora-Q2, does anyone know about this? what it does, it if helps you to go BM? etc...

I use primadophilus rueteri made by natures way, it's got guaranteed intestinal release (helps with my crohn's and IBS)...If I were you, I'd go back to taking fibre supplements, my GI told me to take them daily and indefinitely and it's really helped my crohn's and IBS, unless you're making sure to eat enough fibreous foods daily, otherwise you need to supplement with fibre.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Have you tried Simethicone for your gas? Phazyme; Flatulex; Mylicon; Gas-X; Mylanta Gas all are simethicone based. I too have had IBS for decades and I too took myself off all meds without any worsening of symptoms. I can't say I'm doing better w/o drugs -- but certainly no worse.
I am not familiar with Flora-Q2. The only form of probiotic I take is Activia yogurt. I eat 4 oz. for breakfast each morning. Maybe some improvement on it, but nothing earth shattering.

I used FloraQ-2 when my doc gave me some free samples. When I took double the recommended dosage, I had a decent decrease in symptoms: less gas, little or no blood or mucous in my stool, able to tolerate a greater variety of foods. Unfortunately, when I looked into purchasing FloraQ-2, I found out how expensive it was. If cost is not a problem for you stick with it for a while, until you know for sure that it was or wasn't helping. I switched to VSL#3, which is a little cheaper (but not much!!) and I've been taking 4 capsules a day, it seems to be helping quite a bit. It seems like most people in the UC and Crohn's forums are taking some probiotic. Everyone isn't the same, and there is no magic pill that will make everyone better, but you have nothing to lose experimenting with different probiotics. Good luck!
Diagnosed w/ moderate UC in May '06, had symptoms for years prior to dx - currently flaring
Suffered from depression since I was 19
Taking Asacol, Florastor, VSL#3, Wellbutrin XL, Prozac, multi-vitamin, and Allegra
allergic to the 5-ASA family of medications
