Tonight around midnight I was at a biker rally and all of a sudden got a pain right below my belly button. It was sensitive to the touch. I felt nausea and panic. I got scared and came home. The pain comes and goes. Getting worse sometimes. When I stand up I really feel it. But sometimes when I press the area it hurts and other times it does not. What could this be. I have panic and fear I may die from it. I cant sleep. If it is appendicitis when will I know when to go to the doctor? I don’t want to wait and die from it but I don’t want to go to the e r for nothing. Its been about three hours till it started. How long should I wait it out?

Hi MJ, if you are having severe abdominal pain you should go to the ER. Typically, appendicitis presents as pain in the belly-button region, then quickly progresses until it becomes very localized, severe pain in the lower right quadrant. There may be rebound tenderness, fever, vomiting - these are all red flags. I would call your doctor, at the very least, or go to the ER if it gets worse. Usually appendicitis will progress rapidly so if you feel worse and worse in a short time period, it's definitely time to go.
