Oh no, becellea! Kidney stones are painful as heck - I can't believe you've had the pain for 2 months. I'm so sorry that happened. I haven't had stones but do have renal dysfunction; the kidneys are nothing to mess with. Did they say to just let them pass on their own or are they going to zap 'em?

If you have kidney stones....YOU WILL KNOW IT. Does your stomach feel like your going to vomit? That's how I first felt hours before I got the pain of it. It took me four or five hours before the pain went away. I would rank the pain as being up there with labor pains. (both HURT) I hope you feel better. PS...The Dr.  told me the pain you feel is the "stone" passing from your kidney to your bladder. Good Luck.

becellea, I don't remember if you are male or female but if you are male and have kidney stones you would be in so much pain you would want to die. With females not so much. If they think it is that then there are tests to find that out. I think either an ultrasound or CT scan will show stones.

As a kidney stone maker / sufferer......
The first stone episode I had was the most extruciating pain...as bad as being in labor.
I went to the ER and had had emergency surgery because the stone was 3MM and stuck in my ureter.
I had to have a ureteroscopy to attempt to remove it.
They were unable to remove it at the point and put in a stent to divert the urine for 2 weeks.
I went back in the surgery and they were able to break the stone and take it out in 2 pieces.
I have had 4 ESWL's (blasting) over 2 years to break up the stones and make them passable.
I go ever 3 months for ultrasounds and am loaded with new stones each time.

In regards to pain for men and women...... men will experience a different type of pain as the stone enters the penis

As my urologist explained to me....most stone pain in the kidney or back area is due to the stone being stuck (temporarily during its passage or because it is too big and wont pass at all). Like I said... I have given birth to 2 children and I think the attempt at passing the stone was pretty close to being in labor!

Good luck and get them blasted if possible...it will make the passage so much easier!

Isn't there some concern about Calcium causing kidney stones?

Canyon, I've read you can take up to 1500mg a day of calcium without it causing stones. You also need to by hydrated though. I'm not sure what would happen if taking 1500mg a day with very little water intake.
