Hi Everyone

I have posted here before. I am 22 and have suffered severe constipation since December 2007. I have tried Metamucil, Citromag, Senokot, Magnolox, Milk of Magnesia, Pico Salax, Go Litely, prune juice, and the list goes on.

I am getting nowhere with doctors.

I am at the point where I can only go to the washroom by using a fleet enema one to twice a week.

I have been from gastroenterologist to gastroenterologist. I have had Xrays, bloodwork, CT scan, barium enema, 2 endoscopies, and 2 colonoscopies and everyone tells me that everything is completely normal.

Now I need to supposidely go for a shapes (transit study) and an anorectal mamography. My GP calls it colonic inertia, my GI says it needs to be confirmed before he can do anything with the last resort removing my colon. I was premature and had a colostomy (which was reversed) and no constipation in my childhood.

After the enemas I feel incredibly physically weak to the point of nearly fainting. I need to sit down and drink juice or lie down in bed especially the day after. I am careful to stay hydrated.

This is interfering with my life quite a bit. I am getting nowhere. I am missing university because I need to return home as I am too weak to finish the school day. I am in the middle of my teaching block at Teachers College and I am teaching in a chair with bottled juice.

I have no idea what my next step is. Could it be inflammatory gallbladder? The pain is nearly constant and is always in my upper right abdomen and ranges from there to my right hip, along with a pulling feeling and constant pressure.

Does anyone have any advice for me as to next steps?

I would really appreciate some help. Thank you.

I have suffered from IBS for 12 years though with diferent symftoms, tried all the medications and tests...Then  found a book called "Hard To Stomach" by Dr John McKenna,he explained that the exploratory tests can look at stomach and large intestine but most problems come from small intestine,he recommends a variety of tests for this..Like your previous reply stated leaky gut Dr McKenna gives a good explanation of this and great case studies he has worked with..Although a Dr,he only uses diet and natural remedies..You should look him up he is in Ireland but maybe if you not in Ireland he could recommend someone for you....Best Wishes

bpchick, are you taking any other medications at the moment? It may be that your insides are functionally normal but you're having some interference from other medications. Have you tried Amitiza? This is a new medication approved for severe constipation-predominant IBS...
