I only poop like once a week....if im lucky!!!

YEah so, that's my situation. I was trying to look up some informaiton on it and i read that it might be IBS...is that possible? I can go about 10-14 days without going potty and i have always been this way....it doesnt really bother me till about day 12, then my stomach swells. I am healty, weigh 140, 5'2, just started going to the gym and I eat normal.....this just does not seem right to mee....anyone else wit this problem? I don't want to take laxitives the rest of my life...

Hello Nyrican. Sorry you are having this problem. I too have been suffering from lack of regular BMs. I've seen my doctor and he has me on Amitiza 24 mcg. With the medicine I've been going everyday or every other day. But who wants to be on meds the rest of their lives. I've also been told to slowly add more fiber and water (lots of it) to my diet. The stress and anxieties alone is enough to disrupt your system. Have you considered seeing your doctor?

Hi nyrican,

You might want to look up some information on colonic inertia too.  Have you seen a gastroenterologist?, they are able to run some tests to help diagnose bowel problems.  I don't want to scare you, but you can read a lot about colonic inertia in the ostomies section under Total Colectomy.

Do certain foods seem to upset you more? I would maybe make a food diary for a week or so and see which foods upset you more and try to eliminate them from your diet. Also, mirilax is a great laxative thats very gentle. If you take a small dose a couple times a week regularly for a couple weeks it will probably help. Also, taking a soluble fiber supplement can help to regulate your bowels. Some different options are fiber choice(chewables), benefiber(powder). If you need immediate relief, ive found that the best thing that works to create a bowel movement quickly is peri-colace. It is a stimulant and fiber laxative in one. If you continue to have these problems long term, i would highly recommend seeing a GastroInterologist Specialist Doctor.

Hello, i also have Ibs and the doctor told me it was because of stress. That makes sense because at the time that i got it i was going through a divorce. In the past i was lucky if i went to the bathroom 2 time a wk. But it's much better. I take Acidphillous pill that contain 15 billion bacteria, i tsp cod liver oil with juice, mag citrate 500 mg. the oil and calcium and mag i take it before bedtime. I can now go to the bathroom more often. I would say 5 times a wk now. hope that helps some people.take care
