Hi all,
My journey through IBS is a long one, and I told myself that if I ever do manage through it, I will share my story with others who faces difficulty too along the way, so here I am.
I started having very bad stomach problems more than 10 years ago.
it was always bloated, everyday, lots of air, I feel like a big balloon, have problems breathing, energy is low, it really disrupted my life
it's not unusual that many a times people ask me if I am pregnant.
tried all sorts of things, from ginger tea, massage, eating fybrogel and anti-acid (strangely made it worse).
I've seen lot of specialists, all different hospitals, even Chinese tcm, nothing seem to work.
finally I no longer have this problem anymore
last year, I started seeing a Chinese tcm doctor who operates from home, through recommendation.
no harm I thought since I've tried so many things so I gave it a try
been there since Year 2008 May, currently occassionally seeing him on maintenance medication.
A very unusual doc, of few words, doesnt really examine like usual tcm doctor do, just take my pulse rate and told me all my symptoms....acurrately
told me it was extreme heatiness, for many many years....scolded me for waiting till now to see doc...gave me prescription to get Chinese herbs to brew
I was sceptical, never mind, just try, at most just another failed attempt to add to my list
list of not- to eats: all spicy stuff (otherwise it adds on to the heatiness), no fruits (very strange but he says it was reduce effect of meds and it increases 'wetness in stomach'), no nuts & bean stuff, carrot & radish (this neutralize whatever effect of meds), tea
it went on well, i continued to eat meds, feeling so much better after a number of times
bloating significantly decreases, mood became better
sometimes I was disobedient and took food which he told me not too, in a way that tested his theory
with spicy chilli and curry, if taken more than just a few times, bloating sure to come back
with fruits (i love fruits), he knew i ate fruits, coincided with time when i felt very lousy and bloated
about 2 to 3 times, he told me I am freed from heatiness
it did came back due to the food I ate
now, I feel very fine, no more bloatedness, and I watch the food I eat
last week went back to doc, he said a bit of heatiness
so far, I'm now no longer tired, I'm happy the difficult journey has ended, and this time, yes others do see my stomach as bloated big, ...but with my first baby :)
to all those who are through difficult times....I was lucky to find a doc who can help me....dont give up, and watch what you eat
good luck

I'm happy to hear you are feeling much better but basically what you are suggesting is to go the non-medical route? You went to a Chinese herbal doctor who prescribed his own medicinal tea brew?

I just want to be sure that is what you are suggesting and touting worked for you.

I do agree that we all need to watch what we eat.

But I know for a fact I am not ready to give my GI tract to a holistic doctor, home brewed concoction of who knows what, etc. Not yet anyways......

I do wish you continued health though.
Marsky/Mary's story.....
- Diagnosed with rectal cancer, April 1999 - Stage I, no treatment necessary
(5 hour colon resection: 90% sigmoid removed, 15 inches of colon removed, gall bladder removed, given temporary colostomy)
- Colostomy reversal, June 1999
- Left with IBS/D symptoms, multiple bm's every day
- On a low residue diet at least 75% of the time
- Takes Colace 50 mg each evening

All in all I do okay, I just use the bathroom A LOT! But I survived and beat cancer!

Hi Marsky,
the doctor is a Chinese doc, a senior doctor registered with the Chinese medical board, so still medical route :) over at our side, we're gradually going the way of incorporating the 'East and the West', so having Chinese treatment side by side with Western treatment.
Hi Saddaze
the brew changed every time, because they prescription medication based on your condition at that visit. basically, food wise I can eat everything except those I indicate that he asked me to avoid.
