Hello,

I'm not exactly new here and I do have IBS, I'm just not in a flare lately and have
not been bothered by this problem for SEVEN years. When I did have it, it was the
(D) type that caused me much misery and a terrible case of agoraphobia.

I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder at age 50. The psychiatrist said that
at my age I would only be able to take Adderal for one year. During that one year,
I got over IBS completely. I also got over my headaches. It was definitely an off-
label sort of thing to happen, but it happened.

I am now bothered by Chronic Pain. (You will notice that in my screen name. : ) )
Because of Chronic Pain, I am called upon to take Senokot-S for the constipation
that very often accompanies Opiod medication.

My problem: The manufacturers are no longer selling OTC Senokot-S. The pharmacist
said it was "Due to labeling problems." This medication has made my life tolerable
for YEARS. I've tried other laxatives.

I tried looking it up on the internet but couldn't find anything on it. I'm not very good
at find stuff on the internet but I'll go look again.

If you find out anything - anything at all, PLEASE POST. (Or you can e-mail me.
My address shows in my profile.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about...the senokot-s is just a combination of laxitive and stool softener that is avaible in other drugs at Walgreens and all other stores its 8.6 grams of sennosides and 50 grams of ducolax, or you can do what I do...buy both sennosides and stool asoftener separately...I take 50 milligrams of sennosides and 300 mg of the docusate sodium

READ THE LABEL ON THE SENOKOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't stress that enough! how many were you taking of the senokot? and by the way Walgreens sells its own version of senokot....I can't believe that nobody at Walgreens told you this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go to a different store where they know what they are doing

Denjski,

Actually, I didn't go to the pharmacy to pick it up - My husband spoke to
the pharmacist and got some other stuff.

I spoke to the pharmacist on the phone. I didn't like his attitude and he
seemed edgy. Maybe he didn't know what he was talking about?

Why oh why would they take Senokot S of the market. Just try to buy
it. You can't. It's blocked on their computers. Scary.

Pamela

I LOVE YOUR QUOTE. :-)

You can get it from Amazon, drugs.com and I am sure if you check with other drug stores you will find it. It is not off the market that I can see looking on the internet. There must be some other reason Walgreens doesn't have it. Did you try Walmart?

Here's what I've noticed, most generic medications are pretty much the same. For example, Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Wal-Mart are all comparable medications, as long as you hold the name brand box next to the generic. Then you have an equal comparison. If I were you I would check the other pharmacies (CVS, etc.) and other large chains that offer their own generic versions of named brand medications.

I got online tonight to see why we not longer could find Senokot-S. We live in a small town and have not been able to find it at Walgreens or Wal-Mart. My husband has Multiple Sclerosis and has been using this product for months now. It works really well better than the doctor prescribed amitiza. He's also tried the stool softner generic of colace and it doesn't help. I don't understand why they would drop a product just because of labeling.

Hello new member!! Like your husband I also have MS. also post the MS Healing well site.. Yes,, both IBS and MS.

The senokot is a combination of stool softener and a natural vegetable laxative.....I need both, I need the extra "push"... I take generic stool softener, 300 mg and 50mg of generic sennoside laxative...

about 5 months ago I plugged up really bad, my doctor was talking about going in and cleaning me out....suggested Miralax, but that takes sometimes days to work....because of my MS, it usually takes about 16 to 17 hours to work, everything is slower with me.....but work it does, and more importantly, it continues to work....,I go every other day. When I first started to use this, I could not believe how much was coming out of me.....and good, healthy stools

there are different brands outthere...hopefully you can find what works for you...the stool softener is generic docusate sodium

also that softener he was using, the colace generic, I think is just a softener, no laxative to help push

Hi Pamela,

I have been also looking for the Senokot Laxative in all drugs stores. They did take it off of the shelves, however I have been searching for it on the internet and found it! Go to www.amazon.com I just bought 100 tablets for $26. Hopefully this will work for you! Also try drinking Welches Grape Juice, that also works well for me.

I have Alpha 1 and much pain from surgeries = pain pills = constipation = Senekot-s has been the best. I was 1st un-able to find it anywhere 6 weeks ago. A drugist told it was recalled due to " too much Lactose" whatever that means. It all seems hush hush and I just know something went bad and they are not talking. I did notice the last bottle it was "over-working a bit but it can't be found anywhere now 5-26-09
