I am a 27-year old with a history of digestive problems that is no facing an IBS diagnosis. I was diagnosed with acid reflux 7 years ago and 1 year ago was identified as having a hiatal hernia. In August, 2008, I underwent a laproscopic nissen and fundoplication. Since then I've had dysphagia (trouble swallowing) with liquids and solids. I've had 2 esophageal dilations but that doesn't seem to be the problem, especially since I have dysphagia with water. In the past 2-3 months, I have had increased stomach pain with eating. I've cut out lactose and for a bit cut out gluten but none of that seemed to help. I'm down to not really eating a lot right now, am usually sustained on a liquid diet during the day then eat a night when I can lay down and deal with the pain. The pain is in my upper abdomen, above the bellybutton, and sometimes localizes to the right side. When I'm in pain, my stomach is even sensitive to the touch. I've had a Bravo ph test for acid reflux (negative), gastric emptying test (negative) and they just took blood to check for celiac disease. If that one comes back negative, my doctor wants to diagnose me with IBS. However, my bowel habits have not really changed. I still don't have diarrhea or constipation. Also, caffeine and alcohol do *not make me sick, which is inconsistent with everything I've read about IBS. I was wondering if anybody has any additional insight as to what I might be dealing with. I'm very frustrated and hungry!!!
