I noticed something this weekend while I was outside, camping, with a day-time heat index of 115 degrees: I was actually a little constipated.  This problem went away as soon as I returned home to the A/C.  Apparently you can sweat enough water out of your system that it won't end up in your intestines.

Mind you, 115 degrees is pretty miserable, but if you're dreading July 4th parties because of D, don't worry, just stay outside all day!

Hey, you might be onto something Keriamon. The reality TV show Survivor contestants have commented they only have bm's every few weeks or less. Not daily. First time a contestant said they hadn't pooped for 14 days I sat up and took notice! All they were eating was rice and like you said, they were outside, 24/7 in very hot weather.

Maybe A/C is causing my IBS......LOL!

Something I've discovered, and that other people have also pointed out, is that A/C can be linked to weight gain. When you're hot, you don't want to eat much. We lived on just about nothing but sandwiches all weekend. Even when I had ice cream Saturday night, it was too sweet and I didn't have but one cup full (as opposed to eating an entire half gallon). So, for people with IBS who hate to eat because it makes them sick, but who are hungry all the time if they don't, just turn off the A/C. Probably will help with the D and will also lower food intake to boot.

Of course, the opposite is true: people with constipation should not spend a lot of time getting hot and sweaty, because that will make their problem worse.
