Hi there,

I just wanted to know if these symptoms are common amongst IBS sufferers:

Basically when I deficate I feel almost all the time that there is still something in there (no matter how hard I strain or sit), even when my stools pass easily (i.e. no dry, hard stools like in constipation).  Also, I don't know if this is standard or not, but I almost always urinate at the same time (have done all my life, even before my problems started), and once again I experience a small amount of urine trapped in my bladder. And the funny thing is, in the extremely rare case that I do feel like I have deficated completely, the last bit of urine follows immediately afterwards - it feels immensely relieving when this happens. So is it normal for proper bladder emptying to kind of depend on how well you can deficate (in the rare case I can fully empty my bowels, it feels like the released pressure of the faeces allows me to urinate completely)? And also are the feelings of incomplete evacuation (both bowel and bladder) connected to a common nerve supply, which may be damaged and causing my problems?

Just a note, I've had a colonscopy and nothing was found.

Thanks for the help.

Hi There And Yes IBS C particularly you will feel like you are not finished tine after time. It is called incomplete evacuation and yes it is perfectly fittting of IBS. Glycolax helps this and finding something tio keep you regular. Did you try Citrucel. As far as the bladder, I am not sure, I would definitely tell your physician about this. Perhaps this is another condition if the bladder is involved. Let me know.

NO I do ont think the nerves are in common with another but not sure, ge this checked.

I'm brand new to this forum -- just started browsing tonight.  My sister has a history if IBS D and I just started to realize tonight that many of my symptoms (especially since my two pregnancies) are IBS C.  I wanted to say to you that I experience the exact same thing that you describe about bladder evacuation.  On the days where I feel "incomplete evacuation," I often find that I am peeing frequently in small amounts while I sit on the toilet and wait for the next urge to push.  And I will often finish, post-evacuation, with another small amount of urine.  I've noticed it over the last several years, but have never found it to be painful, troublesome, or worrisome.  It was most prevalent when I was pregnant and my digestive system had slowed to a snail's pace.

Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in experiencing this.

This is a really old thread, but just wondering if anyone had any resolution to this issue? I've had IBS for years, fine for ages then flares up. Having bad one recently and now I feel that I'm not emptying by bladder either. I usually do a wee before BM, during often, and then when finished BM a little bit more comes out. Hardly ever feel completely empty and have to go back and do another wee soon after.

Incomplete evacuation is pretty common in IBS and so is ballder issues.

Both of these process are partly neurogenic.

what treatments or things are you doing now?

If you're female and experiencing these issues, perhaps ask your dr about the possibility of rectocele or cystocele. You can google them for more info. Usually due to pelvic floor weakening, quite common following childbirth, hysterectomy, heavy lifting, etc.
