Hi everyone I was watching an episode of Oprah and she had Dr.Oz on and he had mentioned that if your stool floats it could mean that you had parasites.I researched this online and read that it may not always mean parasites but mean that your eating enough fiber.I've had stool test done for parasites but they came back negative for them, but something in me feels that I have some that they could not find. What should I do? should I ask to be tested for them again? or have a new test done? should I mention to my GI doc that my stools float? I need some advice on this and would greatly apprciate it thanks a lot. :-)

Dietary changes, diarrhea, and malabsorption can cause floating stools. Most causes are harmless and the floating stools will go away by themselves when the infection ends or the normal bacteria in the GI tract adjust to the changes in the diet.

The following diseases may also cause floating stools:

Biliary atresia
Cystic fibrosis
Disaccharides deficiency (insufficient amounts of the sugar-digesting enzymes lactase, sucrase, or isomaltase)
Gluten-induced enteropathy (sprue or celiac disease)
Idiopathic steatorrhea (fatty stools with no known cause)
Short bowel syndrome

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Okay...I've been having this problem too.  I wasn't having it until I started going to a chiropractor who put me on an extremely large amount of a probiotic.  (Acidophilus and bifido bacterium, I think.)  I decided to stop going to her for my constipation and gas problems as things started getting worse instead of better.  I'm going to try a different one who deals with enzymes.  If he even attempts to put me on the same things, I'm going to be out of there so fast that his head will spin.  I went on Align and it made me worse at times than better.  The only way I could get going was to eat extremely fatty foods and then I would sort of dump everything at once.  (Sorry, that's gross, I know.)  So I personally don't think probiotics are my answer.  Anyways, I would tend to think malabsorbtion is problem the biggest reason for the floating stools.  I looked it up too, and apparently some vegetarians want floating stools as it means they are eating only fruits and veggies, but I think that is wacky.  Anyways, good luck and keep us updated with how things go in a few days.

I was on Align like I mentioned thought they were doing something but I was wrong they made things kind of worse I was noticeing changes that were not there before and they were not good. But anyways I will check more into the floating stool synerio(I know I spelled that wrong lol) I do think I may have a malabsorbtion issue cause it's really hard for me to put on weight.Lately I have not been to happy with my GI doctor he frustrates me I got a health advocate on my behalf.I'm having then write me a letter about how unhappy I am with his care and that I may go somewhere else to seek help. This stuff never get tired I'm so fed up with all of this.I want my life back!!! I want to live it!!!! to it's fullest!!!!! got to keep the faith!!!! cause the devil is good at making me think I will never come through this GOOOODDDDD IIIIISSSSS AAAAABBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
