I've been having abdominal and epigastric pains since April 2009. I was 124lbs then now I'm a lousy 104lbs. I lost 10lbs in 5 days in June because I was having horrible diarrhea and nightmarish nausea. I confined myself to my room and hardly ate because of these symptoms. I am 20 year old female. I've been to a GI specialist who did an endoscopy/colonoscopy and only managed to find a small hiatal hernia. Otherwise my organs are in healthy condition. I had a gastric emptying study done which proved that I have gastroparesis. This test was done at Mayo Clinic. I have doubts that is the reason I am sick. I have symptoms of IBS but no reported family history of it, as far as I know. My symptoms are present when drinking caffeinated beverages, eating spicy foods, and the occasional chocolate. I think I may have IBS because lately my stool has been very acidic and painful. I've been like this my whole life but just in April 2009 it became worse. From when I was 8-10 I would have these attacks, especially when I woke up on the mornings. Then they stopped, but picked right back up again in April 2009. I know always in the mornings I wouldn't be able to eat because I'd be nauseous and have to use the restroom right away after eating. Do these traits sound like IBS? I'm getting no answers from doctors and my mom keeps telling me it's my fault I'm sick because I'm too scared to go outside the house in case I have an episode. It has made me quite depressed. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi busillis,
Do you take a fibre like Metamucil for your IBS?  It absorbs the water in the colon and it bulks up the stool so its easier to pass.  I take it every night before bed, its something that should always be taken if you have IBS.  Don't take the sugarfree one the aspartame is not good for IBS. 
Do you take any PROBIOTICS? They are very important to replace the good bacteria in the colon try to find one with at least 50 billion live bacteria in the refridgerator at a health food store.  Take them morning and night on a empty stomach they really help with the diarhea.  Watch what you eat if the foods you say bother you cut them out completely.  Exercise is a great because it calms the mind and the gut.  One medication that I use so I am not panicking about washrooms when I go somewhere is LOMOTIL I take 1 after my morning BM"S and I'm great for the rest of the day.  You need a perscription for it, but it is a lifesaver.
