I just had my gallbladder removed yesterday and so far am doing well with recovery. Just sore and bloated from the gas, but actually have had some energy today and was able to eat some potato and soft ham tonight. I'm pacing to try and get the gas out though. My question was this. My surgeon had to dissect my gallbladder from the fat tissue around it. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I'm supposed to get a report from the pathologist on my return appointment, but wondered if this was a normal occurrence. I'm am heavier than I should be weighing in at 170 and only 5'1" and have neglected doing sit ups for a few years, but fat growing over my gallbladder? And of course he said the gallbladder was diseased with sludge. I'm just concerned about the fat part because of the pathology of it that is was growing around it. Would like to know if their are others like me who had this happen. I know it's kind of gross to talk about, but I'm a worrier by nature. I have 8 children and two grandchildren and this whole last 7 months has been heck for me and them and my husband.

Marsha, glad things are going pretty well.

I wish I could help but don't know enough about this for you on gallbladders, you probably need to wait to get the report back and have your doctor help answer your questions.

They didn't tell me that, but I did have a tube coming out of the surgical site that I had to drain several times a day for about 10 days - that was gross! I never questioned it until my daughter had hers out recently and had no tube. Then they said, "It's a rare complication. They do that when there's excess bile that needs to be drained." Is bile the same or similar to fat, maybe? Do you have a tube?

I'm glad you're feeling better, anyway! I'm a worrier too, but I think it's partly because I have to be - no one else in the family worries at all!!

I have not had surgery to remove my gallbladder. I did do a search and there are published articles that people overweight/obese are at risk for having fat impair a variety of internal organs including the gallbladder. I'm very glad that you are doing so well following your surgery. Here's to a continued speedy recovery!
