had an awful reaction to z-pack which is zithromycin.  it seems to be horrible in the morning and calms down as the day progresses.  very painful gas pains.  since a female body is so sensitive i don't know if men can relate but it is like cramping but not in the stomach.  some belching too.

called gastro doc and am taking probiotics for 2 weeks.  am very tired.  sinus headache is nothing compared to this.  i am supersensitive to drugs, brought out on oxygen after total knee replacement from pain med i was given.  it was given to me in shunt form on my right wrist as a liquid.

medical services are skull

Oh Joan - you poor thing! My gosh I feel for you today......I also am sensitive to meds but not to the extreme level you are.

I did have very painful gas pains after my first colon surgery, they lasted for hours in the middle of the night, while still in the hospital. I was a MESS. The only thing that helped was time, they had to work they way out of my body. A kind nurse sat up with me, oh how I thanked her afterwards.

Hang in there......yes medical services are not what we'd want them to be.

I hope the gas pains subside quickly.

thanks...they seem to be worse in the morning. maybe because they tired me out so much, i am more and more beat during the day plus i have the simethecone (gas x stuff) in my system during the day. can only take 500 mgs max like the box says.

believe it or not oatmeal helped because it delays gastric output. was sick as a dog on sunday but felt better after oatmeal. started the day with twisted gas and then puked up acid so IT COULDN'T have gotten much worse. am taking probiotics and doc thinks in about a week and a half from now I should be out of the woods.

am on an extremely bland diet and resting a lot

HOPE EVERYBODY CAN GET A BIT BETTER SOON (ESPECIALLY ME)

Thank you Shawn wish doctors were as sympathetic as healing well members are. Yesterday evening was my first foray into real food. Made a soup out of cut up steak, green bell peppers, pigeon peas (which is a bean), tomato sauce, wine and garlic and one fresh tomato. It was good to eat real food. Still have gas and will be starting the second week of probiotics tomorrow.

Were you tested for C. diff? I developed C. diff colitis following taking a z-pack for a sinus infection. I had horrid cramping, diarrhea and pain. Then the diarrhea progressed to passing nothing but blood. That landed me in the hospital for a couple days.

Ides, has a point, just fyi, if your not recovering.

Good to eat real food, although some of those foods could be problematic really. But hey, sometimes you have to enjoy.

You feeling any better?

no blood and some progress...can not exercise due to foot being in a wrap and can not swim. of course, i should not walk and have not been taking my one and only pain pill because i vomited acid a while back. did take it again and more suffering so it is not worth it. did take omeprozole because i have borderline reflux before eating the mix of steak, peppers, etc. i think the pigeon peas may have been too much but who knows. can eat steak, oatmeal, tuna fish, soft boiled eggs, bread (i only eat whole wheat) and organic peanut butter and strawberry preserves or honey. i have yogurt every day.

well, still have some pain in the morning but none during day. went down to the park today as the real air is much better than the indoor air for asthmatics especially now in the northeast when there is nothing but wind here as it has become what they call "a hard freeze" and nothing much is alive.

can't wait to take my pain pill and will try on tuesday. may get another package of align as the problem has not cleared up completely. what i will do is to go ahead and go without it and see if the problem worsens.

the special diet does not bother me that much.

hope everybody is ok after the holiday. i went to friends' house and had some ice cream and played cards. could not eat all/any of the food. it was a lot of fun and i was there for four hours or so.
