I agree with your doctor about the Metamucil, if you have hemmeroids and IBs the metamucil is important. The metamucil absorbs the liquid in the colon, it helps to clean the walls(mucus), makes stools easier to pass so your not straining which can make hemmeroids worse and it helps to bulk up the stool. Marsky is right about watching your diet, when I start to flare raw fruits and especially lettuce can cause alot of abdominal pain. I try to stick to protiens like fish, and chicken and starches like rice have always been safe. Bananas are usually tolerated well.
Try to drink lots of water , exercise and sleep are also important.
Are you taking any probiotics while you are there? If your not try to get some and start taking them a couple times a day. If you can find any with at least 50billion live bacteria that might help put the good bacteria back into your colon. Just dont take it at the same time as your metamucil, the metamucil I find is best when you take it right before bed so if you are to experience any gas at least your in bed. Metamucil comes in capsules and powder if you choose the powder dont take the sugar free one the aspartame is not good for IBS.
Continue to take the suppositories that the doctor gave for any inflammation at the rectum.
